Emerald's POV:
What a cheery town, everywhere i went there was a group of creatures silently judging me, i had to pretend like it didn't bother me though, i needed to keep a decent profile here. "I promise everyone here is super duper nice! That's their happy faces don't worry!" Ugh, i had to get stuck with the hyperactive husky didnt i? "Yeah me and you must have a different idea of happy then." She beamed back at me, shrugging, i wonder if she ever felt anything but energetic and joy. "We've been walking for ages, my travels were already difficult enough when are we going to settle down?" I hated that my health depended on this random girl. She'd literally jumped infront of me, called me her friend, but i still know nothing about her. "OW!" She'd halted randomly, making me slam into the back of her. "Midnight!" Her paws started tapping again, we'd bumped into someone she clearly knew well. I looked into the stall we'd stopped at, inside there was an inky black horse trying to sell his fresh fruit. This looks like someone i could get along with. "Sofi! Fancy seeing y'all here, i was wondering where you'd wandered off to today." "I'm sorry! I bumped into a new friend." She stepped out the way to present me. "WOAH NELLY! Have you come from the battle field? Look at all these bruises and scratches." Midnight jumped out his stall to inspect me. "Your wing! Okay let's get to my apartment right now."
"I didn't even notice all these scars and torn apart limbs wow, it suits you." This pink husky, Sofi, was dumber then dumb. I dread to think what creatures she picked off the street. Once again, i was being dragged along by now two strangers. "So i know nothing about either of you."
"Us? I think we should be the one asking questions."
I reckon this horse could be a good companion, someone who always speaks his mind. "You've got a point there." I shrug like it's no big deal.
"Well duh! Her names Emerald, her wing got torn off and her tail got bit, she's come seeking a new home because she's been kicked out her last one!" What the actual fuck. Was this woman psychic? I'm just glad she didn't know that it was the queen who took all this from me or they'd abandon me straight away, after all she never hurts anyone without reason. "How did you know that?"
"Sofi always knows everything, it's so strange, it's like shes a mind reader."
"No i've told you i'm a witch!" Midnight burst out into laughter, i don't think she was joking though. "What i am!"
"Yeah and i'm the wizard of oz." Instead of getting fired up Sofi just started bouncing and explaining her witchy ways and the pagan religion, impressive. "Alright Sofi sweetie we get it, now calm down we don't wanna wake ma neighbours up." Such a thick western accent. I was ushered in and instantly all the curtains and windows were being shut. A whole box of cupcakes were thrusted into my face. Poison possibly. Sofi was just looking between me and the cupcakes, ugh fine. I took one reluctantly and she started hopping around me. "Sit, do you want a drink sugar cube, ive got a bit of everything."
"Just a glass of water thanks." Sofi bounced onto the sofa and sprawled out, pretending to sunbathe. Strange, strange creature. "I knew huskies were energetic but not this energetic."
"Well I'm no ordinary husky."
"I had noticed." I plopped myself next to her, just about squeezing in. "Now speak." Woah! Where did he come from, Midnight had slammed my water on the table and was glaring at me but then instantly he opened a first aid box and started cleaning me up. "Talk? Okay. My favourite colour is green, my mum accidentally called me Emerald because she thought it was a blue crystal-"
"NO! Talk as in, where did you come from? What's up with you? Where's your wing? How old are you?"
"Woah thats a lot, stop overwhelming me." I loved pissing people off on purpose, i dont know how but this fully black horse had finally went another colour, bright red. I snickered. "Alright then, i mainly wanna know why are you here." Sofi was getting ready to predict it again but i held my wing up and smacked it over her mouth. "I'm here because Sofi was right, i got kicked out my last home, disowned by those up in the sky because of my wing, i was a disgrace and i was turned away, i've been travelling for days and this is the first cosy town i came across." Midnight didn't look quite convinced but i'd earn his trust quickly enough. "Alrighty, i believe ya, kinda, so you clearly had a wing, it's not a birth deformity." I shook my head, "I'd kill myself if it was, it was took from me, torn off by a rabid dragon who wanted revenge."
"Up in the clouds?"
"Yes, she was jealous i was the best flyer."
"Your wings are so big! Every dragon would be envious." Sofi chirped in.
"Well thank you Sofi."
"I cant lie i gotta agree, I think the one wing gives you an edge though sugarcube, i'm sorry that happened to ya, i bet it's weird on the floor." What was this? Something wet was trickling down my face. A painful memory was triggered, i forgot i could cry, it had been 6 years. These creatures seemed trustworthy, i wouldnt let them know the whole story ever but they could know about some of my past awards. This was even weirder, i think they called this hugging, Sofi had leapt over and squeezed me tightly. "My wings were my trophy, my identity it's what made me, me." Sofi kept sitting there hugging me, Midnight sat infront both of us, nodding like he understood but obviously no one could understand but i appreciated the sympathy, for now. "Your wrong though! Lots of things make you, you!" Sophie started jumping up and squealing. "Your wings were just part of ya, a big part yes but think about all the good memories you can make without them, there's gotta be some pros."
"Surely sleeping will be easier!" Sofi pointed out. "I suppose there will be some pros it's just i'm still grieving right now."
"I've never had wings but i'm imagining it would be like if i lost my back leg, i use them on a daily." Mm close but not quite. "So where do i go from here." Just because these 2 accepted me in did not mean their town would.
