Warning: Mentions of abuse, death, injuries

Author-san: For people familiar with the character, it will seem that Rika is rather different? I don't think she'd be placed in this situation (or maybe?) but I imagine this happening if ever things turned out for the worse for her.

What was it that made your days seem more colorful? You couldn't remember anything but one— a girl named Rika.

You met Rika one particular day going home from school. You saw her muttering at the park, bruises filled her face as she cursed under her breath.

Curiosity was something you used to have an abundance of. Nowadays however, you barely cared. Still, it was odd how this girl made your body move on your own. You barely knew her yet there you were, sitting down next to her and giving out a piece of chocolate that you've been keeping, ever you felt the need for that kick of sugar. It wasn't any of your business, yet you felt inclined to be there.

Looking at you, she gives you a weird and confused look, raising her eyebrows and inching away from you.

"I don't really want to be that person who meddles in others' affairs. But if you need someone who can listen, I can do that. No talking back and nothing going out of this conversation. Here, it's my favorite flavor," you held out the piece of chocolate once again, hoping she'd take it.

Reaching out to your offered piece of sweet, you smile at her and reach for another piece for you to eat.

It was silent afterwards. Only the sounds of the wind blowing and susurrating leaves could be heard after the rustling noise that the wrapper had made.

Chewing on the chocolate, you glanced back at the blonde girl before sitting more comfortably on the ground. You didn't speak like you had told her and instead, waited for the girl to say something.

The two of you stayed there for a while, neither speaking nor doing anything else aside from stealing curious glances and admiring the familiar scenery of the park. Kids were starting to go home one by one, their parents or guardians calling their names, and the children proceeding to wave their friends 'goodbye'.

"Rika," the girl beside you finally spoke.

"Name?" You asked. She nodded, looking at you and waiting for yours. "Y/N."

Satisfied with your answer, she unexpectedly gives a very bright smile, chuckling at herself. "I really didn't expect this," she told you. "Guess some days may actually be better than others..." spoke in a tone, layered in different complex emotions.

Facing you, she starts, "sorry you had to see me like this. Things aren't really going well recently." Was all she said before standing and stretching. "I don't think I have a lot to say right now but thanks for the choco," she warmly smiled.

A smile so gentle yet eyes filled with emotions so perturbed. It was engraved in your memory.
That one image of the girl that made you greatly curious, bringing you out of your mundane and anguished life.

Recalling, you looked at the girl in front of you. You two had spent quite some time after that encounter. Surprisingly, the two of you got along well. You even found out more about the girl. Like her previous 'occupation' and her family situation— which wasn't much elaborated to you. You didn't mind anyways. Afterall, it mattered more to you that you were there for her when she needed and was always waiting for when she decides to open up.
