Wei Ying powdered his nose, set up the computer, and hit the call button. Jiang Cheng was out to get some treats he was craving and would not be back in a while. 'I have to do this.' Wei Ying had been pondering a lot that day. He wanted to tell Lan Wangji the truth. 'Two weeks is enough to cool off in case he isn't happy about this, right?' It took a lot of convincing to get here.
"Bunny."
Wei Ying had goosebumps the second the line went through, and he heard his spouse speak. 'Wow, was his voice always this deep?' Wei Ying did not make a peep for about five seconds.
"Will you not forgive me this once?" Lan Wangji said.
"Huh? Why would you say that?" Wei Ying shook his head to get his mind straight.
"You've been ignoring my calls for days. I booked a flight to return tomorrow. I know I broke a promise by embarking on this business trip, but I believed I had your permission."
"Lan Zhan, I am not upset about the trip. I just had a problem with the wifi. I'm sorry I made you worried." Wei Ying lied through his teeth. It turned out he really wasn't ready to spill the beans.
"Are you in the guestroom?" Lan Wangji noticed the change of scenery.
"Oh, the servants are cleaning ours," said Wei Ying.
"Servants? I thought you preferred cleaning our room by yourself."
"Haha," Wei Ying scratched the back of his neck. "I thought I could take some time off since you're not around. I promise to handle that when you get back."
"I don't mind. Your skin tends to bruise easily. I refer you to do nothing." Lan Wangji bought the lies and sighed in relief. He then sat there with a thin smile, waiting for his wife to talk endlessly about how much he was missed. However, that wasn't the case. It was quiet; Wangji could hear the crickets outside.
Wei Ying was fidgeting with his fingers and nibbling on his lips. He had rehearsed how to break the news but got cold feet. "Lan Zhan."
"Mm?"
"I uhhh... how is the meeting?" Wei Ying lifted the fakest smile.
"It's going well. The company has acquired more properties here," Lan Wangji said. "Wei Ying, have you been crying?"
"Haha! Don't be silly, Lan Zhan, I miss you to death, but I'm not that desperate." Wei Ying brushed a hand under his nose. "I'm totally fine, Lan Zhan. Just focus on work. My Brother-in-law is taking good care of me, so don't worry... Ah, I just recalled I have to meet Mother in a bit. Let's talk later, okay?"
Lan Wangji barely got another word in when Wei Ying ended the call. Wei Ying quickly searched for the tissues and...
*Achu!*
"Haa, that was close. My nose tingled so much I thought it would explode in front of Zhan." Wei Ying took refuge in the bathroom to wash his face. He may not have told Lan Wangji the truth, but at least they got to talk.
Jiang Cheng came home with a bag of goodies for the foodie and watched him dig in without interruption. They then stayed downstairs to watch a movie and had small gossip sessions. "I had everything set up so you can sleep in your room."
"Why? I love sleeping in yours," Wei Ying whined.
"Tsk! You are not a kid anymore, Wei Ying. It's inappropriate for you to sleep just anywhere."
"No. I like yours; it smells nice."
"Fine, but you're not hugging me like a teddy bear. My back is sore because you wouldn't let go."
