"Belt when are you leaving for LA?" "In an hour and I'm your brother call me Brandon." "But then I think I'm talking to Brandon Crawford which I'm not. Nice talk Belt." and I walk back to my room to text Brandon.

Have fun in LA. Sorry I can't go, I'll miss you!

I put my phone in my pocket and go downstairs to grab something to eat. When I get downstairs I see Sam is over. "Hey wanna go to the mall?" she asks. "Ya let me just get my shoes" I run to get my shoes then say bye to Brandon and head out. When we get to the mall we hit some stores then get pizza. While we are eating I see a familiar face. "JACE!!" I yell jumping up and hugging him. "How's my favorite little cousin?!" he asks messing with my hair. He sits down and eats with us as we fill each other in on the past 2 years. He's in town and he is going to stay with us instead of a hotel. "I'm gonna finish with Sam but I'll meet you back at my place ok?" "Ya no problem" and we part our seperate ways.

-4 days later-

"MERCY!!" Brandon yells and tears are in his eyes. "Babe what's wrong" I say trying to hug him but he pulls away shoving a magazine in my face. "THIS IS WHAT'S WRONG MERCY I THOUGHT YOU LOVED ME!" I read the headline and its says "Mercy Belt cheats on boyfriend of a year, Brandon Crawford, while he's away" and there are pictures of me and Jace hugging and eating all over the cover. "B I didn't-" "Save it Mercy. It's over." he says and he looks hurt by his own words. "Brandon please..." he storms out of my apartment throwing the magazine at me on his way out. At this point I'm crying and I pull out my phone.

To: Brandon😘
Jace is my cousin. I haven't seen him in 2 years that's why we hugged Brandon I love you please come back so we can talk

It shows up that hes read it but he never responds. I sit against the wall and cry. I cry for an hour before Belt comes home. "MERCY! Mercy what's wrong?" he sits next to me and takes me in a hug. "I- I saw Jace and-" I hand him the magazine. "It's ok Mercy this doesn't change anything he's just your cousin." "Ya? Tell Brandon that!" "DID HE BREAK UP WITH YOU?!?" "Yes..." Belt closes his hands in fists so tight his knuckles turn white. "Come with me" he finally says. We end up at the stadium for his practice and I follow him around until he goes up to bat. While he's batting Brandon comes up to me. "Mercy is he really your cousin?" "BRANDON GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM HER! YOU CLEARLY DON'T LOVE HER ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND SHE'S NOT LYING!" Brandon looks scared of Belt and slowly turns to walk off. "Mercy come here" Belt tells me. He calls over Vogey and Joe also. "Vogey and Joe, you're her new step brothers you see Brandon talk to her you stop him. Mercy, don't let him talk to you he's an ass." "But I love him..." "Not anymore" he sasses back and he turns away dismissing our meeting. I head back to the dugout and pull out my phone.

Yes. Jace is my cousin and he was in town. Ask Sam, Buster, Matt, anyone. I promise Brandon I love you

To: Mercy😍❤️😘
Baby I believe you. I'm so so sooooo sorry I broke up with you that's the biggest mistake I've ever made. Please take me back?

To: Brandon😘
Ok but bro's gonna kill you so for now keep it low!

I look up smiling and see Brandon smiling too. He's happier then I've ever seen him and I couldn't be happier.

-3 months later-
"Thanks for dinner" I tell Brandon as I wrap my arms around him, walking to our car. "My pleasure" he says winking and I smile getting into the car. He turns on the radio and starts driving home. We told Belt a week ago about us and after 3 days he finally came to his senses and accepted our relationship. It's been a long 3 mon- BANG! "MERCY!" My head spins and I try to look towards Brandon. He's screaming but I hear nothing and he's crying while calling someone. Next thing I know I'm getting lifted onto a stretcher and being pulled into an ambulance.

-At the hospital-
I look around bright lights blinding me and the sound of beeping machines overrunning the room. "Your awake!" Belt says in sync with Brandon. I open my mouth to speak but find it hard. My eyes start to close again but not before I mutter "Hey B" and "I love you Brandon". I hear screaming as the beeping noise stops. After that my world goes black.

-2 months later-
•Brandon's POV•
I remember everything to this day. The way her eyes opened then shut and the way her pink lips spoke my name. The last thing she said was "I love you Brandon". The last thing she said was for me. That she loved me. God, I only wish I could tell her it back. To have her right now in my arms. Instead, I am at home. In the bed I haven't left since that day. I left once to attend her funeral. The boys have come and gone making sure I'm alive and bringing me food. They inform me of the games like I actually care. All I care about is Mercy. I want my babygirl back with me in my arms tonight. So tonight I lie awake yet again. I picture her with me. I replay my speech at her funeral everyday in my head.

Mercy Marie Belt. Mercy was and always will be the most beautiful girl to walk this earth. Everything about her from the way she laughed to the way she walked was perfect. We hit a bump in the road awhile back and I made the biggest mistake of my life, or so I thought. My biggest mistake now...taking that look at her. The way she sang along to the radio was amazing and I looked at her. That split second with my eyes not on the road have changed our lives. I am emmensley sorry and have much regret to all of you I have effected. I will never forgive myself. She died loving me. I will die loving her.
