"So good to be home!" I said sighing as I threw the door open. We had spent a week at my grandparent's house, and it was, as usual, a terrible one. Lisa actually got her hands on some wine (even though she is under age), and got so drunk that she gave some to the dog. I only had one glass, and that's because I didn't want Lisa to just get in trouble.

Lily came giggling after me. "I hated that place!"

"You didn't look like you hated it when we were swimming in their private pool," I said with an eyebrow raised.

"Well I liked it then..."

I laughed as I ran outside with Lily chasing me. Krisy was getting the mail, and reading a letter. Her face was expressionless. Then her lips curled into a frown. I stopped laughing and went over to her.

"You ok Krisy?"

She looked up at me and plastered a fake smile on her face. "Of course," she said as she stuffed the letter in her pocket.

I nodded. Why was she acting so strange? What did that letter say?

I heard my phone ring. "Hello?" I answered.

"Umm. Hey. It's Timmy."

"How did you get my number?" I asked suprised it was him.

"I saw your friend when I went to a grocery store. He gave me your phone number after we started talking. He said he was your close friend and that you wouldn't mind."

"Who's he?"

"Ehh, Edward or something?"

Edward...Edward.....Edward....

"Nope. I don't know an Edward."

"Hm. I wonder how he got your number then. But the reason why I was calling you was to ask you if you would like to hang out this Saturday?"

I gulped. He was totally asking me on a date. I told myself that I would never trust anyone with my past, and I would never date anyone. If I dated someone, I would have to tell them my past. And I will never trust anyone again with that information.

"I will think about it."

After I said that, we hanged up. And I had to think about it.

"Madeline, I need to speak with you," Krisy called me. She used my full name, so either I was in trouble, or we needed to talk about business. Susan and Rob probably called her about the drinking issue.....

When I got downstairs, I sat down on the couch. Krisy was sitting in the chair, her usual spot.

"What's up?" I said casually.

"I must tell you something very important," Krisy said frowning.

"Alright."

"We are, well we might lose the house."

I was expressionless. Living on the streets of California again? After all me and Lily have been through? Eddie and Cole would probably go after Krisy too.

"I'm so sorry," Krisy broke down in tears, "I tried so, so hard. I never wanted this to happen. It's just my job don't pay much. I have provided you and your sister a home, and now we are going to lose it."

"No, we are not," I said boldly, "I have kept my lazy butt up in this house through the school year and this summer. I am going to get a job."

Krisy looked at me. "You're joking."

I shook my head. "I am going to earn enough money to keep this house. We can both earn money, then pay for the house."

Krisy sniffled. "I don't know. The last job you had was a bust..."

My cheeks felt hot at the mention of my last job. Babysitting. A little girl got her head stuck in a toilet. I told myself on that day that I would never babysit anyone, besides Lily, again.

"So? I can get a different job."

Krisy sighed. "Alright, Maddy. You can search for a job this Saturday."

I smiled. "Don't worry, this house will be our's forever."

And I hoped that I was right.
