**********

Ahhh Saturday morning. The day where I go hunt for a job.

I got up, got dressed, and had some breakfast. Usual morning routine. Only it is summer, and I am up super early.

I left Krisy a note, and was on the streets of California. It was your usual big city morning crowd. Most people heading to work, others trying to find some coffee.

Speaking of coffee...

Right when my brain thought that, I was in front of a cafe. I wondered inside, and smelled the most beautiful scent in the morning.

"May I help you?" A girl asked at the front counter.

I opened my mouth to say something, but then I realized I had no money with me. "Umm, can I apply for a job here?"

The girl smiled. "Of course! We always need more workers. You already got the job."

"How do you know I'm not really a psycho killer?" I asked smirking.

"Because I remember you last year in high school. Me and you were partners in the senior - junior project."

I quickly remembered and nodded. "Well I'm Maddy if you have forgotten."

"I'm Carol, and welcome to my dad's old coffe shop!"

I smiled. "When do I start?"

Carol laughed. "Right now if you would like!"

She led me behind the counter and showed me how to do a few things. I knew I wouldn't mess up with this!

"Here is your hot cocoa, sir. Anything else?" I asked the man that was my first customer.

He smiled sweetly at me. "No thank you."

I gave him a smile in return. Carol gave me a thumbs up.

"You're a pro at this," she said high fiving me.

"That was just my first go."

Her watch beeped. "Well, I'm out of here for the day. Your schedule is over there, and another person will come in a moment."

I nodded and grabbed my schedule. My shift would end at lunch. Tomorrow I would have to come at 7:30 A.M.

I heard the door open and saw my next partner. He looked exactly like Cole.

Wait.

It was Cole.

I started to panic. My worst enemy, working side by side with me? No way.

I grabbed my phone and texted Lisa.

Maddy Harper:

Lisa, your ex is working with me!

Lisa Goode:

Since when do you work?

Maddy Harper:

Nvm that! Just come to the cafe with a blackboard out front! And stay here till my shift is over!!

Lisa Goode:

On my way.

*************

I sighed in relief as I saw Lisa walk in. Cole was in the back and hadn't seen me yet. But he did see me when he ran up front to help Lisa.

"Madeline? What the heck are you doing here?"

"It's Maddy, and I'm working. What are you doing here?"

Cole scowled. "Working. Same as you."

"You don't say?" I asked.

Cole just scowled again and turned his attention to the tables and customers. "Hey, there is some people over there and you might wanna go and take their order."

"Aren't they supposed to come up here?"

"Not always," Cole muttered.

I shrugged and went to the table. "How may I help you-"

It was Albert and Eddie. I frowned.

"Yeah, I'll take some black coffee please," Albert said smirking.

Shoot. Forgot the pen and paper.

"I'll have a pastry with some regular coffee, and, aren't you going to write any of this down?" Eddie asked smirking.

"Why? Are you gonna forget it?"

That wiped the smirks off of Eddie and Albert's faces. I walked away, feeling satisfied with my sarcasm.

I scowled at the smirking Cole. He and his buddies had this planned. Lisa came up to the counter as I made some coffee.

"Ok, since when do you work?" Lisa asked again.

"Since right now."

"Cool. Just don't let any kids get stuck in the toilet."

I rolled my eyes. No one will forget that day, will they?

"Hey Lisa," Cole said as he cane over to where we were talking.

"Don't you have to pass out some coffee or something?" Lisa asked, she was totally annoyed.

"Nope. Not busy right now. But I have the coffee ready for Eddie and Albert."

Lisa looked panicked. "You can serve it," I said calmly. Cole just shrugged and went to serve the coffee.

"Is he faking the 'nice guy' act?" I asked Lisa because she knew him better.

"Nice? You call that nice?!"

"More nice than usual."

Lisa chuckled. "I don't know if he could ever be nice again..."

I laughed. "I guess not."
