Hey Maddy.... can we hang out today...?
Maddy Harper:

This is it....I'm actually going on a date, with someone besides Albert. I mean, maybe he really did just wanna hang out.....ugh, guys are really confusing.
I sat on the park bench, looking at the beautiful, bubbling fountain in front of me. Kids and adults came and tossed extra pocket change into the fountain in exchange for one wish. I looked at the willow trees surronding the area. It all looked so...magical.
"Hey," Timmy said snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Oh! Hi."
I stood up and smiled at him. He smiled back, brushing some blonde hair out of his eyes. We didn't do or say anything. We just stood there. Silence. If this isn't awkward, I don't know what is.
Timmy cleared his throat. "Want to walk around?"
I chuckled, "Sure. Know what would be even better though?"
He looked a bit confused.
"To ride around. I brought my bike," I said smiling, "But we can totally walk if you didn't bring a bike or you don't have one."
Timmy laughed. "I was thinking the same thing, but didn't ask because I thought you were the person who drives everywhere."
"You mean, you ride your bike everywhere also?"
Timmy nodded. I laughed, "It's a small world."
We got our bikes from the bike rack and started towards the trail that leads into the forest. I have never known anyone, besides Lisa and my parents, who rides their bike everywhere. I mean, cars are cool and all, but bikes, they are cooler. The cars zooming right pass you, and the wind blowing in your hair. I think I might have inherited the love for bikes from my parents.
When I was younger, my dad bought me my first bike. I was a little wobbly at first with no training wheels, but then got the hang of it. And I have loved bike riding ever since. I still had my dad's bike somewhere....but I never look at it because it brings back memories of my parents, and I want to forget about them. They are gone.
"Maddy?" Timmy asked looking at me.
"Hmm? Wha-" I looked at him for a brief moment and then slammed into a tree.
"Are you okay?" Timmy stopped his bike and ran up to me to help me up.
"Yeah, just got distracted."
"You looked like you were in another universe," Timmy chuckled.
"Sorry, did you say something?"
"Yeah, I asked if you liked school."
"Oh," I sighed getting back on my bike, "Yeah, I guess I like school."
"I hate school. Just another day of rumors and insults."
Rumors? Oh wait....I did hear a rumor about him beating his own mother up. I never believed it though. Never heard a rumor about him again.
"I did hear one rumor. But insults?" I asked sort of shocked. He looked like the type of guy who was popular and never get insulted.
"Yep. A bunch of people hate me just because of the stuff I did in the past. I have no friends, besides you maybe."
"What made you want to be friends with me?"
"I just saw you on the streets like that, and - I don't know."
"Don't tell me you're doing this just because you feel sorry for me, because that situation was under control."
Timmy shook his head. "Like I said, I don't know what came over me. I just wanted to help."
I for some reason felt my cheeks grow warm. I looked down so he wouldn't notice. "Thank you..."
"What?" Timmy asked stopping his bike at the fountain.
I stopped mine. "I said thank you."
Timmy just had a straight face. He shrugged and left without saying good-bye. Did I use the wrong words? I then noticed that his ears were red as he rode away.
Was he embarrassed too? Does he....like me? I shook my head. Never in a million years would he like me. Never. Right?
