"I broke our promise."

"What?" He says slowly. "Which one?" He says looking up at me. "Two actually" I say just loud enough so he could hear me. "Which ones then?" I just look away. "Evelyn... is it... you know what?" Tears fall down my cheeks and onto the floor and I don't say anything. "I'm so so so sorry I wasn't there for you Eve." He says walking closer. "Don't call me that." I'm sorry Evelyn, I should have been there for you." He says reaching out for a hug. "Yea! You should have! But you weren't! Guess who was there instead! Austin!" I yell pushing Jackson off me. He just stands there looking down. "Austin has been there for me through everything! And you know what! I loved you! I really did! I thought that you were the one I would end up with! But I guess I was wrong... I-I love Austin." Jackson's face turned from regret to sadness in a matter of seconds. "B-but I love you." He says quietly. "Please Evelyn, I really do love you." He says looking up. "Well it's to late." I say walking away with tears in my eyes.

~Time Skip~

It's been about a month and Austin just recently got emitted from the hospital. I decided I was going to stay with Austin until he got better, so for now I'm living at his apartment.

"You really don't have to do this." Austin said as I help him in bed. "It's what best friends are for, plus it was kind of my fault. If I wasn't here my dad wouldn't have came here and hurt you." I say quietly. He just nods as I cover him up in blankets. I turn the lamp off and start walking out of his room.

"Where are you going?" He says looking at me. I turn around. "To the couch. That's where I'm sleeping." I say staring at him. "Why aren't you sleeping with me?" He asks confused. "I don't want to accidentally hurt you." He just nods as I turn around to leave.

~Time Skip~

(Austin's POV)
I wake up to the smell of cooking bacon. I slowly sit up and grab my crutches. I stand up and walk out to the living room. Eve is cooking breakfast in the kitchen. She looks over and runs over to me saying, "What are you doing?! I'm supposed to be helping you!", sternly.

She puts her hand on my lower back and my face turns a deep red. I look over at her and she's smiling up at me. Once I get to the table, I sit down as Eve runs back over to the kitchen. She looks so cute focusing, her tongue sticking out with an over sized college sweater on. I sit there resting my face on my hand staring at her in awe.

Am I in love with my best friend?

I push away the feelings and continue to watch Eve make breakfast. After breakfast me and Eve sit down and watch our show "HeartStopper".

~Time Skip~

A couple months later and I'm all healed. Eve went back to living with Jackson's mom. I invited her over today to hang out and she gladly agreed.

(Eve's POV)
Once I got to Austin's we watched our show and played Mario cart for a little bit. As we finished up a game we realized it started snowing so we put some sweatshirts and jackets on to keep us warm. By the time we finished getting ready it was dark out. But that didn't stop us!

We ran out and started playing in the snow. We made snowballs to throw at each other and made snow angels as well. It was really fun!

As I was running over to Austin I tripped and fell but he caught me. I slowly looked at him as our faces were inches apart. Our faces both turning a deep red. "I'm getting cold, can we go inside?" I ask not moving an inch. He nods and turns around to go inside. I stand there for a second before I eventually follow him back in.

It was really awkward the rest of the night. When we came back inside we watch more of our show but the whole time we were sitting in an awkward silence. Then after the show I got tired so we went to bed. I was on the inside and he was on the outside. We laid there facing opposite ways, me facing the wall and him facing the door.

That night we both felt something, although he may not have known what it was, I definitely did.

It was love.
