26. Underground Chapel

The coup was a success. The military faked a scenario where the titans entered Wall Rose. The royal council ordered to close the gates, not wanting to help anyone that wasn't in the interior. That was enough to convince everyone they were not good to lead mankind. Premier Zachary took over and all the nobles were imprisoned... all except Lexie's parents, when they went to their home, they were already gone.

Hange and Moblit went to tell Levi and the squad about it all. Erwin wasn't hung and the scouts were free.

"So, we're no longer criminals?" Levi asked.

"That's correct. Everything has finally been cleared." Hange confirmed. The friends cheered the fact that their name was cleared.

"Wait, what about Lexie? Is she ok?" Armin asked. Hange and Moblit shared a distressful look.

"Lexie is with Eren and Historia. She's slowing her uncle down as much as she can. She gave us a map of where they are going." Hange said and handed the map to Levi.

"I knew it!" Jean said.

"She would have never betrayed us." Connie added. Everyone shared a look of relief.

"She is not out of the woods yet." Hange said. "She came to warn us about Erwin's arrest before leaving. She also said something. They don't want her to eat Eren, they want Historia to do it, but that's only because there is a greater power that Eren's already inside of her, she just hasn't figured out how to activate it and we don't know if her uncle wants to or knows how to. She found out all of this and the truth of her bloodline after she returned from the battle outside the walls."

"A greater power that Eren's?" Mikasa asked.

"She couldn't tell us much since she was in a rush, she is still playing double agent. But she did ask us for something." Hange said, everyone paid attention to them. "She said that if her power made her dangerous, that we had to kill her."

Everyone gasped at those words. If she had asked for that, it meant there was so much more they didn't understand, but at least, they knew their friend was still on their side. On humanity's side.

Eren was completely tied in a wagon. Hands and ankles lied, muzzled and blindfolded. They had stopped again for a quick break and Lexie took the opportunity to visit him.

"Eren, it's me, Lexie." Lexie said as she approached him. "I'm going to take off your blindfold." and that's what she did, only to see a couple of green eyes glaring at her. "You seem to be kidnapped a lot. And they thought I'd be the damsel in distress." She tried to joke, but Eren still glared. Lexie then looked to the side to make sure no one was listening to them. "Our friends are on their way to rescue you, I'm trying to slow us down in hopes they'll reach us before we arrive." She whispered. Eren's eyes widened in surprise. "Don't talk, I'll take off your muzzle and give you some water, ok?" Eren nodded and she did just that.

"Lexie, time to go." He uncle called from outside the wagon.

"Coming." Lexie called back. She put the muzzle back on Eren and also the blindfold. "Sorry." She apologized quickly before leaving.

The underground chapel was impressive, the crystals shone with their own light. Lexie really tried to slow them down, she did, but at the end, they arrived to the location before her friends could be rescued. Historia and Lexie both wore white outfits. Historia had a robe and simple dress while Lexie had a strapped loose dress. Eren had been chained in a higher platform without his shirt. When he finally woke up. Historia and Lexie both came into view. Seeing them side by side, the resemblance was almost evident, save for the hair, height and eye color.
