"Can you feel them?" My father asks Ivan. "No heartbeats yet, sir." Ivan says. Alina and I look at each other. I'm digging at the bracelet that dampens my powers, trying to get it off. I can hear the Volcra screeching in the distance. "They're coming." Alina says. "Yes." My father says. "I should just tear this down now." Alina says. "And what can you really do on your own?" My father asks her. Alina looks at the small piece of the antler embedded in my father's hand. "Besides, it would be a monumental waste of power." My father says to Alina. I keep digging at the bracelet, trying to get it off.

The Volcra's screeching is getting closer and closer. I look up and I see them flying above in the sky. I discreetly pull out a pin from my hair. I start digging it under the bracelet, trying to find the lock. "Do something." Alina says to Kirigan, talking about the Volcra. I zone out, focusing on getting the bracelet off. I almost reach the lock, but my father grabs my wrist tightly.
I whimper quietly in pain, as the pin digs into my skin. "Do not do that again. Like I told Alina, your power is mine." He says pulling the pin, and then throwing it off the skiff. He pulls the rest of the pins out of my hair, and he throws them off the skiff. I clench my jaw, glaring at him. I look at the tunnel my father made with Alina's powers.
