*ding dong* Matt opened the door seconds later. "Hey Lu-. What happened?" he asked gesturing to the slightly visible handprint on my face. I mentally groaned mad that my makeup didn't completely hide it. "I fell asleep on my hand while doing homework." I lied. "Oh okay?" He said.we both knew I was lying I was just glad he didn't call me out like he usually does. "Come on in." He says opening the door more. I step in and take in the scent of his house. I always loved coming over. His house felt more like home than my actual home.

"You hungry?" He asked. "Nah, I'm good." I lied again. Just then my stomach growled insanely loud and I blushed. "You sure?" He joked and led me to the kitchen. Matt made me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and handed me a bowl of chips. I loved Matt like a brother, he didn't know about my abusive life or anything super personal like that but he knows everything else and never judges me.

Once we are in his room. He locks the door and grabs a wet washcloth from his bathroom. He kneels down next to me and I sit still. He gently wipes my coverup off and reveals the swollen, bright red handprint. A tear trickled down my face, I knew he knew and I couldn't help myself. I threw myself into his arms and he just held me, I eventually soaked his neck with my tears. "Lucy, what happened?" He asked ever so softly. I gathered myself and began to explain how abusive Danny has been for the past couple of years. I pulled up my sleeves and showed him the scars from the late night attacks against myself. He leaned over a kissed my arm top to bottom. "Please Lucy, don't do this to yourself." He pleaded.

"I'MM HOMME! WHERE'S THE PANCAKES?" Matt's little brother Conner yelled as he walked through the door. We went down stairs and saw Conner spinning in circles. "What happened to him?" Matt asked his mom, Leah. "We'll the doctor had to put his arm back in place so they put him under this laughing gas till he was knocked out. When he woke up it hadn't wore off yet. It should only last an hour." Leah explained. We just giggled as Conner ran through the kitchen pretending to be an airplane.

"Wanna watch a movie?" Matt asked walking into the living room. "Sure, how bout Avengers?" I asked smiling knowing he had the same idea. I sat down while he put in the movie and started making popcorn. Halfway through the movie I felt myself slowing slipping into my dreamland.

As I stood in an endless field of spring green grass I watched a single paper airplane soar through the wide open sky. After this plane flew far out of sight another one appeared. I felt the warm spring breeze flow through my hair and my skin absorb the warm sunlight.

I woke up to find all the lights off and an orange quilt drapes over my tired body. I heard the rain pounding hard against the roof and then a crack of thunder echoed through the house I jumped up and quietly ran to Matt's room. I opened the door and found him lying there half awake, I think the thunder woke him up. He lifted up the covers and I climbed in next to him. His bed was warm and it sent a tingle down my spine. He wrapped his arm around me and I felt so safe and secure. I quickly fell asleep.
