The day ticked by and finally lunch rolled around. "Hey Lucy." Matt said as I sat down at our table for two as usual. "Hey Matt what are you doing today after school?" I asked. "I don't know yet why, wanna hang out?" He said shoving a chicken biggest in his mouth.
"Kinda, I just don't wanna go home." I shrugged. I really didn't want to go home but I wanted to tell Matt how I felt. "Lucy, you know my family is yours, your always welcome to come over. Even if something happens you can come over at 2 in the morning and we won't mind." He said reaching across the table and grabbing my hand.
The same spark that ran through me in my wonderland ran through me now. Why did he do this to me. Growing up I never felt anything for him, why now? I asked myself. "Thanks Matt. I appreciate it." I said.
Time passed as we ate and talked about our classes. We people watched together a lot too. If you don't know what people watching is, it's when you watch the people around you and judge them pretty much.
"Look at Marcy, she looks like a rainbow puked on her head." Matt commented as she passed by. We started cracking up. Marcy dyed her hair a different color every week it seemed like. It would be blue even before the past red dye faded completely.
After a couple other rude comments from the both of us the lunch bell rang and we were dismissed to fifth period which we didn't have together. "Meet me by my truck after the bell." Matt said before we parted and he went to his locker.
All throughout fifth and sixth period I couldn't help but fantasize what I was going to say or how I was going to tell him I like him, maybe even loved him. Would he feel the same? Would things change? Of course they would. I started reconsidering my choice to tell him.
*~*
I listened to the engine purr and Matt cranked the radio, then we drove off. When we pulled in Conner was in the driveway with some friends that looked familiar, playing basket ball.
"Mom, Lucy is here for a little bit is that okay?" He asked, Leah poked her head into the kitchen and smiled. "Yeah that's fine, and good afternoon Lucy, how was school?" She asked. "Okay it was the same as usual; long classes, boring topics, and strange people." Matt and I laughed.
"Sounds fun. Are you two hungry?" Leah asked. "Nah, we're fine." Matt said, and I nodded. I couldn't wait any longer. We headed upstairs and got to his room. I've been in his room so many times it feels like my own. His dark blue walls made it feel darker at night but his small fish tank light up the room a little bit.
"So I wanna tell you something." He said sitting on his bed. I sat next to him but Indian style facing him. "Me too." I said. "You first." I told him. "Okay so today in sixth period Kelsey Morgans asked me out. I said yes." He smiled at me. My stomach dropped but I saw the spring grass green sparkle in his dark green eyes.
I gave him a fake smile and did my best to keep myself together. I wanted to cry and break down right there but I didn't. "That's great." I squeaked out. "You think so?" He asked. I was surprised he wasn't suspicious yet, he can usually read my emotions like an open book. Why not now when I really wish he would.
"Yeah totally, she so pretty. You guys are perfect." I lied. Out of all the scenarios that played through my mind in those last periods him dating someone else was not one of then.
