I found myself sitting awkwardly in his car, not saying a word as he drove halfway to my college. After a while of hesitation, I finally mustered the courage to speak up.
"Sorry..." I muttered, my voice barely above a whisper.
He asked, focusing on the road, "About what?"
I braced myself, expecting some form of reprimand,I closed my eyes and blurted everything out "I'm sorry because of me you got scolded by dadi sa. Actually, I didn't know that you were at home, so I told dadi sa that you might be in your office, but you were at home, only if had knew that you are at home I wouldn't have lie to her, but I didn't figure it out what should say so I told her that you were at office,I am really sorry."
To my surprise, he chuckled, and I slightly opened my eyes glancing at him, taken aback by his unexpected reaction. His smile was like a ray of sunshine, and I couldn't help but be captivated by it.
"Aap sans leti hai"..? He said [Do you breathe]
Matlab...? I asked.
[Meaning]
"Matlab jis speed se aap baat krti hai aren't you ran out of breath".. he said his eyes focused on me.
[Means At the speed at which you talk you aren't running out of breath". ]
"And it's not your fault," he said softly, "Okay! You don't know dadi sa she is dadi sa. She scolds me ten times a day. It's her way of showing love. Don't stress too much."
I felt a weight lift off my shoulders, and a smile crept onto my lips as I realized that maybe he wasn't as unapproachable as I thought.
"So, when do your classes end?" he asked, breaking the silence.
"Huh..?" I mumbled, still lost in the moment.
He repeated his question, and I snapped out of my reverie, "Oh, at 4 o'clock."
"Okay, I'll pick you up," he replied, stopping the car as we reached my college.
"It's okay, I will go by myself. You must have work," I replied, hesitating.
"You know dadi sa will kill me if I go home without you," he said, his tone serious.
I frowned, "But you always come home late."
"I'll manage," he insisted.
"Ooh," I said, realizing I had forgotten about going inside.
He furrowed his eyebrows, "Don't you want to go inside?"
"Oh, I totally forgot. Okay, I'll go," I replied, trying to get out of the car but forgetting about the seatbelt. I tugged at it awkwardly, feeling embarrassed.
