The moment we stepped into the hospital, the air was thick with tension. The waiting room buzzed with anxious chatter, but the second Ma spotted us, silence fell like a heavy curtain. Her eyes narrowed like a hawk catching sight of prey, and I braced myself for the storm.
"Avivansh Pratap Singh!" Ma's voice thundered through the room, making everyone flinch. "Where have you been? And Avni, why hasn't your phone been working? Do you two even realize how many calls we've made?!"
I opened my mouth, but before I could form a response, Chachi jumped in, wringing her hands nervously. "And Yuvan! He's been acting so strange. He won't tell us anything about where you've been or why you weren't answering your phones."
Just then, Yuvan appeared from around the corner, looking like he'd rather be anywhere else. His guilty eyes darted to us, silently pleading for help. "Badima, relax," he said, a little too cheerfully. "They were, uh... busy. Bhabhi's phone broke, and Bhai forgot his charger."
"Forgot his charger?" Ma repeated, raising an eyebrow. "For three days?"
"And what exactly were they so busy with?" Chachu asked, arms crossed, glaring at Yuvan like a parent waiting for an excuse.
"Work," Avivansh blurted out, his tone sharp. "I had important business meetings, I needed some quiet time, and Avni was with me to help."
"Quiet time?" Ma repeated, her voice dripping with skepticism. "And that 'work' was so important you couldn't answer a single call?"
I could feel Vansh's tension beside me. His jaw tightened, and I knew he was seconds away from snapping. Before he could, I grabbed his hand and stepped forward. "Ma," I began, my voice calm, "it's been a stressful few days. My phone broke, and we were in a remote area."
"A remote area?" Chachi interrupted. "What does that even mean? Where were you?"
Yuvan coughed loudly, cutting through the interrogation. "Guys, can we focus on the real issue here? Kashish Bhabhi is in labor! Shouldn't we all be worried about that instead?"
"Don't think this conversation is over!" Ma warned, pointing a finger at Avivansh. "We'll deal with you two later."
Before anyone could respond, a nurse entered the room. "Kashish's family?" she asked.
"That's us!" Chachi said, stepping forward.
"The patient is asking for her husband," the nurse informed us.
