"But that was mine, Yuvan!" Kirtee’s voice wavered, her frustration clear.

"So what? I ate it. Go get another one," Yuvan replied nonchalantly, leaning back on the couch as if he had no care in the world.

Kirtee gasped dramatically. "That was the last piece, you idiot! And you ate it!" she whined, crossing her arms like a petulant child.

Two grown adults, bickering over a pack of chocolate. God, my family is insufferable sometimes.

I sighed, pinching the bridge of my nose as I tightened my grip around my coffee mug, my eyes glued to my laptop screen. The never-ending chaos around me was nothing new, yet today, it felt dull, almost unbearable.

Because Avni wasn’t here.

Ever since she left to stay with her father, everything felt strangely uninteresting. I found myself missing her more than I cared to admit. And as if Ma had planned my misery, she made sure I had absolutely no time to sneak away and see my wife. Instead, she dumped a mountain of work from her business onto me, ensuring I was too buried in responsibilities to even think about visiting Avni.

Not that Ayushman, my so-called supportive brother, was any help. He had conveniently excused himself, claiming he was too busy with his newborn.

I sighed again, rubbing my temples. I miss my wife.

Last night, we had stayed on a call, talking late into the night, until she eventually dozed off mid-conversation. I had stayed on the line for a while, just listening to her soft breathing, before hanging up.
