Patricia: (Voice over) Once upon a time, an American journalist came to Kabul.

Patricia was attractive and bright and right away she hooked up with one of the city's typically eligible bachelors.

Joseph was 32. A well liked and respected lieutenant in the US Army who makes 39k a year....

We met one day in typical Kabul fashion.

Patricia: (Voice Over) It was love at first sight. NOT!

Compared to the reality of dealing with my boyfriend, Chris would never follow me to Kabul. Afghanistan seemed like a vacation.

And what better diversion from a flailing romance than running away with the U.S. Army.
