Hiccup stepped out onto the deck cautiously, and Ryker blinked. "Is he wearing my cloak?"
Viggo stiffled a chuckle, "It would appear so."
Hiccup's eyes landed on them and he hesitated before Viggo gestured him over. He approached slowly, stepping up the stairs and eyeing the hunters roaming the decks.
"Uh, Viggo?" He said quietly.
"Yes my dear?" Viggo raised a brow.
Hiccup hesitated before, "You do realise those dragon cages can't hold changewings right?"
Viggo froze, his eyes snapping over to the cages where said changewing was very much gone.
Ryker ripped his sword out, "DRAGON!" He shouted alerting the hunters, "Changewing!"
Hiccup winced as Viggo ran a hand down his face, a second later, however saw him lunging forward tackling the younger of the two brothers to the side, a blast of acid narrowly avoiding them.
Viggo stared at him in surprise as Ryker swung at the dragon. Hiccup cursed and shot to his feet, grabbing Ryker's arm and pulling him back. "Stop! You'll get yourself killed!"
Viggo restrained his brother, "Hiccup," he warned as the rider approached the dragon, hand extended.
"DON'T!" Aleki quickly shouted to the hunters who were about to fire.
Hiccup approached slowly, hand outstretched, "I know," he said softly, "I know..."
The hunters watched in shock, Viggo tense, with a hand on his sword ready to intervene.
Hiccup smiled weakly, gentle, "I know..." he soothed. The changewing pressed against his hand with a low growl, and Hiccup stepped closer running a hand down the scales, "I know..." he murmured.
"Its alright," he whispered both to the dragon and the hunters, "Its okay..."
The changewing curled around him, purring like an overgrown cat and Hiccup sighed, his shoulders relaxing as he turned back to Viggo and Ryker.
Ryker was staring in disbelief, "You talked that thing down."
Hiccup rolled his eyes, "He's a baby," he glanced at Viggo incredulously, "What were you thinking taking it from its home?"
"Hiccup." He warned, stepping forward, his eyes narrowed, but Hiccup stopped him.
"I get it, your hunters." Hiccup snapped, "Whatever, not my concern anymore." He said bluntly watching the two blink at him in shock, "But a baby changewing? Are you insane?"
Realisation came crashing into Viggo, and he tensed even as Ryker looked between them warily.
"What's the significance?" Aleki questioned the younger man.
Hiccup sighed, "Changewings are incredibly protective of their young, they can track them for miles. I'd be surprised if there wasnt a small army on their way."
Viggo looked grim, "What do we do?" He demanded, looking at Hiccup.
Hiccup glanced back and murmured quietly under his breath to the dragon running his hand down its scales. "Let him go, the parents won't bother perusing once he's released."
Ryker nodded grudgingly and sheathed his sword.
Hiccup sent the dragon off, and they watched it disappear. "Sorry" he muttered, to their surprise, "I, uh, didn't think you'd want your ship burnt."
Viggo chuckled, "Right you are my dear," he turned back to his men, eyes narrowing, "Get back to work!" He shouted.
The ship burst back into action, whispers circling but that was inevitable, Hiccup's eyes remained on the distant horizon until Ryker placed a hand on his shoulder.
Hiccup glanced at him, confused.
"Thank you." Ryker said grudgingly, squeezing his shoulder tightly. Hiccup couldn't help but be reminded of Dagur in a way, and sighed, looking away.
Damn it...
Ryker cleared his throat, and Hiccup gave him a very much faked smile, before the stress of what just happened caught up to him and his legs buckled.
Instantly, the two brothers caught him, and he whined slightly as his head ached. Warm hands cupped his face and he blinked up at Aleki who frowned at him, checking him over.
"I'm fine," he murmured, "Just..." he sighed, not noticing the look the three hunters exchanged.
"Hiccup..." Viggo murmured finally, "You're glowing."
Fuck.
His head snapped down to his glowing hands and he clenched them into fists, forcing the magic back down. "D-Don't..."
Ryker frowned, pulling him up and leading him back below deck, depositing him on the bed back in Viggo's quarters.
Aleki joined them, closing the door behind him and Viggo with a frown.
"Easy lad." Ryker grumbled, "We won't judge you for..." he paused, gesturing, "That."
Hiccup swallowed. He really hadn't wanted to do this.
"Its my magic." He said quietly, "The Riders... they found out and..." he winced.
Viggo sighed filling in the gaps, "They didn't take it well."
Hiccup nodded.
"And that father of yours?" Viggo questioned.
Hiccup's eyes darkened, "He disowned me."
Silence reigned as the three registered that.
Hiccup sighed, "You three, berk, the riders, Dagur and Heather are the only ones who know. Out of those I've told myself, there's you three and Dagur."
He left out his mom, Valka didn't want anyone knowing she was alive after what happened to Hiccup.
Ironic, even his mom was shocked but she didn't attack him over it.
"So." Aleki said finally, leaning forward intrigued, "What can you do?"
Hiccup closed off instantly, not wanting to relive the memory of what happened before he was exiled, not wanting to think back on his abilities. Shockingly, the three didn't push, Viggo signalling Aleki out before sitting down next to him.
"I assume this is why taking up to Berk is out of the question." Viggo stated more than asked.
Hiccup didn't need to nod. The question was rhetorical.
"And the beserkers?" Ryker grumbled questioningly.
"I've given them enough trouble." Hiccup muttered with a dose of self-loathing.
Viggo scoffed, "Do they see it that way?"
Dagur would have smacked him for thinking such, Hiccup knew, and Heather would have done the same.
