It had been a few days since she had gotten back when she was approached by Rhys, who had come to Angevin unannounced once more. She was sat with Kaladin and Evander when Roan brought him to them. "Evette, you have a guest." Roan informed her, making her glance over her shoulder.
Her face fell when she saw Rhys, and she turned the rest of her body to face him. "Do the Fae have no patience?" Evette asked the man in annoyance.
"I'm not here for that." Rhys informed her, and her eyes glanced down at the envelop he held, and she looked back to him with a raised brow. "Well, not entirely." He gestured his head out. "Could we talk for a moment?"
Evette stood from where she was sat with her brothers. "Give me a moment." She told them before she began to leave, and gestured for Rhys to follow her. They reached an empty sitting room, and they both sat down on the sofa and faced one another.
"I'll give you the easy part first." Rhys told her as he handed her an envelope, and when she took it from his hands she felt that it was heavy. She turned it over and saw that it was addressed to both her and her mother. "It's an invitation to a meeting...to discuss the war and what we're to do about it."
"You asking me for my alliance again is the easy part?" Evette asked him skeptically as she set the envelope down on her lap. "What exactly is the hard part?"
Rhys then explained to her how Feyre and Lucien got back to the Night Court, and what happened during it - how they were attacked by Eris and the rest of his brothers. How Cassian and Azriel swooped in and saved them once they had gotten to the Winter Court.
"Lucien is at the Night Court?" Evette asked. "Is he okay?"
"He's fine." Rhys waved her off. "You do know that Elain is his mate, right? That whatever you two had...he will abandon it for her. And that you should abandon it, too. Lest you stand in the way of their bond."
"We're best friends, Rhys. We're not...just what are you here for?" She asked impatiently.
"Right, well, I sent Azriel to do his thing at the Autumn Court and Eris caught him." He told her. "We're dealing with it - but overall, Eris says that he can convince his father to side with us. But he had a condition...he wished for you to agree to meeting with him. He wanted to spend time with you, I think?"
"Spend time with me?" Evette raised a brow.
"Yeah, I don't know what it's about." Rhys shrugged. "And frankly, it pissed Azriel off."
Evette frowned at this. "Why would it piss Azriel off?"
Rhys looked at her for a few moments in silence. "He just...really hates Eris." Rhys replied. "Anyways, it is, of course, up to you whether or not you go through with it. If not, I can tell him that - "
"No, no." Evette cut him off with a shake of her head. "I can...I'll see him. Spend time with him." Evette believed that her and Eris were friends - they had been sending letters to each other back and forth for many weeks at this point - she was still waiting to hear a reply from him at this moment. She supposed he wished to see her as she felt that perhaps she was his only friend. The only person who had ever offered him kindness, maybe.
She supposed this was the only way she'd be allowed to see him as his father disliked her deeply, and Eris told her it'd be unwise for her to go there. And she knew his father wouldn't allow him to leave to come to Angevin just for the dislike he felt towards her.
"Okay." Rhys nodded with a slight strain to his voice. But Evette had no care as to what he thought about the decision - or why she had decided to go through with it. "So, you'll attend the meeting with him and some others...and then you and him can sort out whatever you need to."
