After Sylvia walked me home, there was no car in the driveway and my mother was working the night. I was home alone and was going to be bored out of my mind. I immediately ran to my room to look in the mirror and admire my new look. This is the makeup I'll do for my date with Curly, I thought to myself as I did a twirl in the mirror. I checked my alarm clock on my bedside and saw how early it was in the evening at only 5:34pm. I believed it was best to hang around the Curtis house when my Mother came home to avoid any confrontation on my new look. I changed into a more rebellious outfit; a pair of fitted Levi blue jeans and a high collar blood red tank top. I didn't look that much like a greaser but with my voluminous curled hair and movie star makeup, I was unstoppable. Just for fun I added a black headband to my hair which all the more added to the boldness of my attire.
"Look out world, here I come." I posed in the mirror and slipped on the same pair of ballet flats as I had used this morning for school.
I pretty much strutted to the Curtis house with leather frame bag containing my book bag, two changes of clothes and all my hygiene products, since I was planning on staying the night. Besides, my parent would assume I was already in bed since they both got home at later than 11:00pm.
"Hey y'all I'm here." I loudly announced as I stood in the door frame admiring the agape mouths and wide eyed boys presented to me.
Everyone was in the living room, in the house, and had seen my new look, including Dally. He looked the most shocked and stared at me with softened eyes that I was used to seeing as so cold.
"Look at the pretty lady!" Sodapop hooted as he ran up to me and kissed my hand.
"Allow me mamacita." Two-Bit bowed dramatically as he took my bag and carried it into the room I would be sleeping in.
I giggled at the reactions I got and strolled over to the couch where Ponyboy and Johnny made room for me in the cushion between them.
"So what's on TV?" I asked as I grabbed the remote off of the coffee table and flipped through the channels.
"Anything you want, sugar!" A drunken Steve loudly exclaimed out from the kitchen, beer in hand.
Darry smacked him on the back of the head and muttered something about respecting women. Out of the corner of my eye, Dally was still gazing.
"Oh and one more thing, can I use your phone?" I turned to ask Darry.
He nodded and pointed to the phone on the wall, which I picked up and dialled Curly's number that I had scribbled on a piece of paper.
"Helloooo?" It was Curly.
"Hey Curly, yeah it's me. Can you pick me up at mine tomorrow instead?I'll give you my address..." I gave Curly my address and chuckled at his flirting through the phone.
When I hung up, all eyes were on me once more.
"So you are going out with Curly? Wow, you could do better." Two-Bit shook his head in disbelief.
I rolled my eyes and sat back down by Ponyboy and Johnny. Why was everyone so against Curly now? He was Tim's little brother, and the gang didn't have any problems with Tim or his gang. Was it because I was basically one of them, and they saw me as more than just some random girl?I had known the Curtis' for as long as I could remember, our families being close since they were only one block away. As a matter of fact, Darry used to babysit me. One time, when I Soda, Steve and were eight and I was about sic or seven, Pony was five, Johnny was six, Two-Bit was turning nine, and Darry was almost eleven when we all were playing soccer, then I tripped on Sodapops foot and had a bloody nose. I remember little Ponyboy crying and screaming 'Don't die! Don't die! I love you too much!' Then a mini Johnny sobbing 'Stop bleeding! Stop bleeding!' When Steve was laughing maniacally for a kid and Sodapop was violently sobbing saying something like 'I killed someone, and it was a girl!' Which was pretty hilarious. Then Darry ran to get an adult and it was one big circus over one little bloody nose, it wasn't even broken. Well, that was then and this is now. Now I'm sixteen and going on a date tomorrow and the boys with the additional member of Dally are going back to their old shenanigans of 'protecting the damsel' although I do know how to kick ass at certain times.
"So mini-Timmy is picking you up at your place?" Sodapop asked me so I nodded my head in response.
"Can I drop Sonia at your place? She heard about the date and really wants to help you get ready." Two-Bit blurted out while he ate a plate of what I assume were leftovers.
Sonia was Two-Bits little sister who was barely ten years old and much more mature than Two-Bit already. They both had the same eyes but Sonia had beautiful harvest blonde hair which reached her shoulders. I had met her several times before, but we both had been so busy with life we hadn't seen each other in a while. Last time I saw her was when I dragged a blackout drunk Two-Bit into the house. She never called him that though, she always called him Keith. Sometimes Sonia would come over to the Curtis house and if I was there I'd take care of her and if I wasn't I'd be called over there. So when Two-Bit if Sonia could come over of course I said yes.
"But what will happen when Curly comes to pick me up?" I asked Two-Bit.
"I'll be there with you two, I'll take her home when you're off on your date." Johnny spoke up.
Everyone then continued buzzing on about my new look, even Darry had something to say. Although Darry seemed rather cold to others, he never had any issues with me. I really missed the old him, before his parents were killed he actually allowed himself to have fun. Now he was a single Dad who works two jobs who loves his kid brothers and never stops (I'm sorry I had to).
"So I'll drop her off at your place at four-ish." Two-Bit confirmed before he and Steve left the house to go home or God knows where.
A while later, at maybe nine o'clock I went outside and sat on the doorstep, just looking at the night sky. Dally came out and silently sat beside me and lit a cigarette. We sat there, not looking at each other, but just staring off into the sky.
"It's getting colder." Dally tried to start a conversation with me.
"And darker, it's almost October." I wasn't going to ignore Dally, I wasn't going to be mean to him and add fuel to the fire.
"Do you really like Curly?" He whispered, lowly too.
I turned to him and tilted my head "A little, he seems decent to me, why?"
He shook his head and lightly smiled "Nothing, go get some sleep kid."
When I got ready for bed, when I laid down, when I slept, the one thing on my mind was Dallas Winston.
