God I was worried. It had been over a week and my parents came back, the gang apologized, and I hadn't seen Dally since the day he came over. I had school that day since now it was guess what? Wednesday the next week. So much had gone on since then, Cherry broke up with Bob and he was sent to military school upon his parents discovery of him doing dope and with his grandparents interference, they sent him away. Marcia's ex-boyfriend, Randy showed up and turns out, he's a hippie, a downright stoner too. There was also a riot downtown where all the kids of colour held a anti-racist protest, rightfully so too, enough was enough of that racist garbage. I even passed my Math test with a near perfect score. I looked out into to the streets filled with people and wondered aloud "God I wonder where Dally is." I was worried about him, badly.
"You didn't hear? He was sent off to the cooler again, we don't know when he's coming out." Lou was sitting beside me on her car hood outside of a convenience store during lunch break, we didn't care to eat in the cafeteria since the Socs were wilder than a pack of wolves in there, and the mumps epidemic scared us since Marcia and Bow had already been infected along with Cherry.
"No, why didn't anyone tell me?" I was shocked, Dally got sent to the cooler! Typical, sure but again? Oh Dallas you idiot.
"Well Lou, after school, can you drive me to the jailhouse? I wanna bail him out." I declared.
Louise spat out her coke and looked at me mortified. She shook her head and facepalmed "Girl, that's like $500 down the drain, are you sure?"
"Yes, Lou. As a matter of fact, can we stop at the bank first? I have plenty of money saved up from babysitting and I can easily earn it back." I pouted. Lou rolled her eyes and gave in.
"Y'know I'm only doing this because I notice you actually eat when you've had your daily dose of Dally, right?" I realized Louise was right. When I was with him, I ate more. I had more energy and more happiness, and altogether I functioned a lot better.
"Oooh yay! Yay! Yippee! Oh Lou, I love you so much! Thank you, thank you, thank you!" I hugged her tight.
"Yeah okay kiddo, calm your tits. Schools about to restart so let's head on out." Louise and I got into her dark blue car and sped back to school.
The day passed on by and Louise drove me to the bank where I made a withdrawal of $600, just in case if the $500 wasn't enough and to pay Lou for gas, which she actually declined.
"There goes 120 hours of babysitting, fly fly fly little cash butterfly." Louise had her sunglasses on and made a flying motion with her hands.
"Oh stop it will you? Besides, wait till he sees me!" I squealed. That day I wore a tight red blouse, a grey, red and black pencil skirt, and some black ankle strapped heels. Well, the jailhouse was thirty minutes away at the least and we pulled into the DX first, to get gas.
"Hey Soda! Hey Steve!" Waved as they both came over to Lou's convertible.
"Well hello ladies, and who is this?" Soda gestured to Louise.
"Louise Carpenter, how do ya do? Say, if you're friends with y/n over here can you convince her to not bail her boyfriend out and waste cash on his JD ass?" Louise shook his hand.
"Oh crap, Dal didn't want you to find out, man he'll be pissed." Steve pitched in as he filled the tank up.
"Wait a damn minute, why?"I said. I was confused, Dally was my boyfriend. My boyfriend! Why didn't he want me to know?
"He said he didn't want you to get upset." Soda shrugged with a grin on his face.
"Yeah alright, c'mon girl. Let's hurry up before I actually start to approve of Mr.Denver Wilson dating you." Louise shivered with a disgusted expression.
"Eh, you ladies get a discount today. I gave you about a quarter tank so $20 for you beauties." Soda winked at us. Lou grinned and walked with Sodapop to the register while Steve and I chit-chatted about an upcoming car race that was going on in Illinois.
"Alright let's go see Prince Charming!" Louise got back in the car. We waved goodbye to the DX and Lou handed me a piece of bubblegum.
"I just know you to are gonna suck face so chew some gum for a fresh mouth." Louise was so nonchalant, it was funny.
"Okay, okay, I get it. And let me guess..."
"No making babies in the back of the car or any car and if you ever do, use a condom." We said in unison. We both looked to each other and began chortling. The arrival to the jailhouse was odd, seeing how dreary it looked. I grabbed my black purse and eagerly hopped out of the car and walked into the police station with Louise following me not far behind.
"Hello? Sir? I'm here to pay bail on someone." I went up to the counter where a slightly chubby male police officer sat.
"Who might that be?" He asked. He didn't look like a cop, he looked too soft. He honestly looked like a panda bear with blue eyes and dark sleepless bags under them.
"Dallas Winston." I felt a little nervous.
"His bail total comes up to $550, are you sure you want to pay that?" His voice sounded like the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland, proving my point that he was really a softie.
"Uh yes, here." I counted the money which I luckily extracted in $10 bills and handed it to him. He counted and smiled at me the told me to wait right there.
"Oh boy, you sure are love struck you poor dear. I'll meet ya at the car." Louise shook her head and chuckled. Not far away I could hear the familiar voice of Dally talking about who would be stupid enough to care about him. The officer returned and sat back down, and following him was Dally. He didn't notice me at first until the officer called me over.
"Miss, I need you to sign the bail notice, please and thank you." I walked over and was handed a pen and paper. I quickly jotted down my signature and bid him good day. I looked at Dally who was staring at me shocked and the look on his face must've been priceless, since when I took him by the hand out to the car, Louise began to cackle as we came out.
"Oh my gosh! Dallas Winston is officially shooketh! Y'know this wasn't so bad after all." She hooted and jeered as Dally got in the back and I called shotgun again.
"Oh quiet Lou, he just got out. You doing good Dally?" I turned to the backseat and Dally grabbed my face and gave me a full package kiss, with tongue.
"I thought you didn't know I was in there?" Dally gasped in between several kisses.
"I found out through the grape vine today, and I wanted to bail you out." I smiled against his lips. Louise sharply pulled out of the parking lot, jolting us apart.
"Hey hey hey! I told you save the baby-making for somewhere else! Don't go all kinky and 'do it' in front of me! I gotta drive, I can't bleach my eyes while driving, now can I?" She scoffed.
"Hey doll, who's this cockblock?" Dally sneered.
"Louise, but you can call me your worst fucking nightmare if you hurt my gal pal." Louise sneered back.
"Aha. Okay, anyways how have ya been sweets?" Dally turned his attention back to me.
"I passed my Math test, a 97% to be exact." I grinned. Math was never my strongest subject, and I think it was well known.
"My oh my, my girls a smarty, and you know smarties get a nice reward. A nice, long, hard- OW!" Louise drove into a pothole in the road.
"Like I said, no baby making!" Lou reminded us. Dally gave me sad eyes and I just shrugged.
"So anyways, my parents are home so you can't really come over, unless if you wanna meet them." I looked at Dally.
"Uh uh, I ain't ready to meet your parents." Dally held his hands up in defeat and went a little pale.
"Aw what's the matter, afraid of her big old ex-military dad?" Louise cooed.
"Shut up, I ain't scared it's just that I'm fresh outta the cooler and don't want no trouble right now." Dally looked out to the people walking on the streets. Louise dropped him off at the Curtis house and drove me home. When we got to my house I asked Lou to come with me and be my cover story.
"Hey where have you been?" My Dad looked up from the book he was reading and my Mom turned to face me as she was making dinner.
"Lou and I have been studying, I wanna keep up the good grades, look at this!" I proudly presented my near perfect math test score. Lou smiled and waved at everyone and quickly left, not wanting to stick around for all the mushy parenting.
"Glory! You're a sharp one, honey, look! She's doing better that even I used to do." My Dad brought the test over to my Mom.
"Hmm, very good. But why not 100%?" She tilted her eyebrow at me.
"I-I still got the highest score, in my class." That was honestly the truth, and I wasn't afraid of her since Dad was there.
"Good job." She simply said, then hugged me. Wait...why was she hugging me? I thought she hated me? How could she be proud of me when I was no match for this or for that? Well, it's been a while since she's actually hugged me so J hugged her back. "I made Sinigang, you like sinigang?" She asked me. Sinigang was a food from her home country which was a tamarind soup that was made up of a thin broth and many vegetables with whatever she wanted in it.
"Yeah, yeah I'll eat it." I croaked out. It had been so long since my mother and I had conversed and not been fighting or arguing or me getting my ass whooped. My black eyes had since healed and I think that the storm between us was finally over. That night was just like dinner when I was five, happy and normal.
"So I'm going to Canada, Ottawa to be exact in the next few days for a meeting and I'll try to bring you something back, alright? I'll also take your mother with me." My Dad was excited to go to Canada, you see, it was a dream for his dearly departed brother to go and he felt like this was his way of paying homage to him.
"Can you bring back some maple syrup? I really like that stuff and it's so expensive here, please, please, please, please, pleeaasseee???" I begged.
"Of course I will you little munchkin! Y'know, when you smile, you look like your uncle. You really do." He smiled at me gently. So it was Wednesday and they'd be gone from Friday to Tuesday, and he told us they'd go by plane. After dinner I went up to my room and began looking over my American History notes, knowing I would pass. American History was so incredibly easy to me, making me the top student of the class. I had none of my friends in it so no distractions, and I quite easily memorized the dates and events. After studying a little bit, I got ready for bed and picked up a book called 'The Great Gatsby' then I heard a knock at my door, and told whoever it was to enter.
"Hey kiddo, you got a package for you." My Dad held up a small white box wrapped in a black ribbon.
"Oh where is it from?" I grasped the box with excitement.
"I dunno if just had a note that addressed it to you, it was dropped off at the front door and no one was there so who knows." He shrugged and walked away, shutting the door. I was all jumpy and my pulse quickened as I pulled the ribbon off and opened the box. Inside was a gorgeous silver necklace, that had a heart charm which was intricately engraved with my initials and Dally's. It was at the back of the heart and in the box there was a letter.
Dear y/n,
Baby I'm sorry I got locked up in the cooler without telling you. I know how stressed you can get and I guess I didn't want you to go nuts. I got in the cooler for fighting with Curly, I think I broke his nose and one of his legs, maybe both if I'm lucky. See, he was saying a bunch of nasty things about you and I don't like hearing him say those things about you because you're my girl. So I guess I got a little mad and I took a pipe I found of the ground in the street and beat the tar out of him till someone called the fuzz and they pulled me off of him. I called Buck then Darry and made sure all the guys knew not to tell you but somehow the word got out. I know how much my bail was and I can't believe how stupid you are to have payed it but thank you. I guess I got you this so you're money would have been well spent.
From,
D.W.
Although he called me stupid, I knew it was his way of saying 'I love you'. I looked at the necklace some more and clipped it around my neck. It was a perfect balance in between the St.Christopher and the dainty heart around my neck. I went to bed with a smile on my face and my head filled with loving thoughts of my boy, Dallas Winston.
"Hey kid! Your alarm's been buzzing a bunch, get up." My Dad called into my bedroom the next day as I groggily squirmed out of bed. I saw that I had slept in about thirty minutes and realized that I would have to take a shower after school, which was not a good thing to wake up to. I shut my alarm clock off and dressed in a loose blue skirt and a white turtleneck sweater, white knee-high socks, and a pair of saddle shoes. I tossed my hair into a high ponytail with a white bow.
"Dad, are you taking me to school today?" I asked as I did my makeup.
"Yeah, kiddo, I'll wait in the car." I liked it she. I went to school in my Dads white 1960 BMW 700. My mom drove a 1959 Ford of some sort, but my Dads car was the coolest. He said that I can drive it because I have my license, but I just can't bring myself to drive it since it's so precious.
"Okay Dad, let's go." I hoped into the car and we sped off to school. There in the schoolyard, I saw Ponyboy, Johnny, Steve, and Two-Bit but no Louise. I hoped she was just late since if she caught the mumps too then I'd be nearly by myself. My Dad stopped in front of the doors and everyone turned to gawk at the fancy car that just pulled up. "Thanks, Daddy. I'll catch you later, see ya!" I kissed him on the cheek and git out and waved at the guys.
"Who was that in the BMW?" Steve was quite impressed by tuff cars, but snazzy cars like those really caught his attention.
"Oh that was my Dad, he always drives that thing around." I brushed it off like it was nothing "Dad even says I could drive it if I wanted too since I got my licence a few months ago." I don't think it was very wise to say that around Steve the car freak or Two-Bit the airhead.
"Wait, can I ride in it? Please? I'll be good, scouts honour!" Two-Bit jumped up and down.
"Nah don't let this idiot ride, you'll crash the beauty! If anyone should ride in it it should be me!" Steve shoved him aside.
The boys continued arguing until the bell rang, and still no sign of Lou. I found out in attendance that she had actually contracted the mumps, that meant no girlfriends to hang around with. I actually had Chemistry for once, a class that had just re-started since the lab was defaced, burnt and needed renovations. I just hung around Biology along with Ponyboy sometimes until the room got fixed up. In that class, I had Ponyboy and Johnny to my luck.
"Alright boys, girls, and gorillas, now I know we haven't done anything in this class since it was in repairs but now we're back on track. So, let's cut to the chase. You will have to create a presentation in groups of three to four explaining the structure of an atom. Although the mumps epidemic has taken a lot of our students, you all still need to make your groups today. Now go." Mr. Cardinal, our chemistry teacher instructed. I looked around the room and Pony and Johnny were waving me over, which I gratefully accepted.
"So, should we work on this after school?" Ponyboy read over an instruction sheet that Mr.Cardinal handed out.
"Probably, we can go to my place and my Dad can drive us to mine. Pony, do you think that Darry will let you come over?" I turned to Ponyboy.
"Yeah, what about you Johnny? Can you come over to hers after?" Johnny grinned.
"I ain't got anything else to do, now do I?" Johnny and Ponyboy would hitch a ride with me in my Dads car, and we'd get started on the project which was supposed to be a poster according to the instructions given. Mr.Cardinal told us we'd have one week exact and no class time so I guess we'd really have to get to it. When the end of the day rolled around, Pony, Johnny, and I walked out behind a chattering Two-Big and Steve who were blabbing on about some dumb thing they were gonna do.
"See y'all later." Ponyboy waved goodbye to the two yapping twats.
"Hold up, where are you guys going?" Two-Bit looked confused.
"We're going to work on a project with y/n for Chemistry." Johnny explained.
"Hah! Have fun walking you idiots." Steve snickered. Just as he said the my Dads car pulled up and the smile plastered on his face faded.
"Well, see ya!" I sickeningly sweetly waved them off. I ran over to the car with Pony and Johnny behind me and got into the front seat. "Hey Dad, Johnny, Ponyboy and I are working together on a project and they'll be coming over, kay?" I smiled at my Father, knowing he'd say yes.
"Fine by me." He shrugged. Ponyboy and Johnny got into the backseat happily.
"Hello Mr.Y/LN, thanks for the ride." Ponyboy smiled.
"Hey no problemo, how you doing Pony? And you Johnny?" My dad drove off.
"Eh I'm okay, schools kinda weird but I still am doing good." Ponyboy said. He was close with my Dad but still had respect for him so he wasn't going to use any foul language.
"Hey, don't worry. You can say it sucks if you want. I hated school like hell." My Dad chuckled sincerely.
"Pony's doing better than me though, I'm barely passing math with a 57%." Johnny was open about his grades although he wasn't proud of them.
"Oh kid, math is nothing special. I got through school with a 53% and I think I turned out okay. Besides, this new math thing they're doing means that they probably won't dwell on your math grades too much." My Dad assured Johnny, and I think it worked. Johnny didn't really have a father figure who was actually old enough to be his father, so I guess my Dad was the only guy who fit the description. Darry of course, was just Pony's older brother, Dally was well...a poster boy to Johnny, none of them were really like a Dad.
"Alright kids, pile out. I gotta make a run to the office, there's a meeting in about 25 minutes. I should be home by 11:00 and you're Mother is working the Night Shift, some kid got all beat and they need her to stay at the hospital. They say he has a broken nose, both legs are snapped, and a pretty bad concussion. She told me some lunatic beat him for badmouthing someone. Anyways, see you guys, behave!" My dad dropped us off.
"I'll bet you twenty bucks the guy in hospital is Curly." Ponyboy said as my Dad drove off.
"You think so?" Johnny eagerly perked up.
"Probably." I shrugged and walked inside sith a slight grin, Curly deserved it. And my Dally served me justice.AUTHORS NOTE: ALRIGHT MY BABES GUESS WHO IS SICK,BURNT OUT, AND STILL WRITING FOR YALL BC ILY GUYS 😘😘😘😘
