"Seokjin, it is quite warm here. Let me take your coat off."

Seokjin looked up from Namjoon's chest, innocent eyes peering dreamily at his husband. He blushed when he found the latter staring down so intensely at him, the deep gaze feeling new after such a long time. He shyly looked away with flaming cheeks, nodding in reply to the CEO's offer.

Namjoon unwrapped his arm from around Seokjin's waist, his fingers twitching with the urge to pull him back as soon as he let go. For a moment, his face darkened, longing flooding his chest. He had felt it for months while he stayed away from Seokjin— avoiding him on purpose— but back then he could drown himself with work. Now? Now he couldn't.

Not with Seokjin so close, looking so sweet and beautiful in the fur coat and silk gown. His pure, angelic face gazed up at him with innocent curiosity... and love. He was too beautiful to be real. Too lovely. Too precious.

And that was what scared Namjoon. He really loved him— deeply. But the rumors he had overheard from his employees gnawed at him— gossip about seeing Seokjin with other men, whispers of deceit and secret affairs.

Fear crept into his heart, feeding on insecurities buried deep inside.

And he was scared of what Seokjin did to his heart, his mind. Namjoon found his happiness and sorrow depending on his little husband. He felt like a puppet in his comforting and fragile hand, a single move of which he felt could crush him to bits.

So he convinced himself there was only one way to keep Seokjin tethered to him—by pulling away, by ignoring him until he came begging for love, by neglecting him until he swore loyalty to Namjoon alone.

But Seokjin never begged, never swore, and that only made Namjoon colder, more ruthless, even as he adored the angel he called his Moon.

As toxic as he had become, Namjoon still loved him from the deepest part of his soul. And it hurt. It hurt every night he longed to kiss and hold Seokjin, even as he stayed away from home in excuse of work. It hurt to keep himself apart when all he wanted was closeness.

But he had to. He believed that Seokjin wouldn't dare to cross the line if he kept him deprived of his attention, his affection.

He didn't realize he was making the gravest mistake— slowly killing his Moon from the inside. He misunderstood him completely. Namjoon mistook Seokjin's quiet pliancy as indifference, when in truth the younger was breaking under the cold distance.

The more he thought Seokjin didn't care, the more he hardened his own heart— unaware that he was crushing the love of his life.

Namjoon laid next to Seokjin every night, neither of them having any idea that while they had their back to each other, both of them were shedding tears till they fell asleep.

One thought the other no longer cared; the other thought his husband had chosen work over love, and maybe, had fallen out of love entirely.

Tonight, they were truly together again after seven whole months— glancing secretly at each other as though the other was their only source of light, despite the hallway full of lights.

Tonight, Namjoon was a storm of emotions. He wanted to be close to Seokjin again, especially here in public, where even a rumor of their distance would destroy him.
