I just had this little spark of inspiration last night and it started as a poem but then it just morphed into this little short story. I hope you guys enjoy it! Thanks for reading =)
Shooting Stars
One humid July summer night I laid down on the cool dew covered grass and just surrendered myself to the night.
I looked up to see the sky illuminated with the brilliant stars of the night, all twinkling down upon me, bringing a smile to my face.
The whippoorwills sang along with the buzzing orchestra of the summer bugs that to my delight reached my ears. The fresh smell of cool night and pleasant nature filled my nostrils.
A bat cut through the twinkling night air catching bugs for it's dinner. A lone wolf cry pierced the air in the distance becoming stronger as more joined in.
Traces of summer fun and laughter mixed in with the ever captivating nature songs.
As I reveled in the smells, sounds, sights and pure beauty of the night I watched as the twinkling stars began to fly across the sky.
My eyes widened as I watched in awe as they grew brighter, flew, and them soon disappeared.
I was so enthralled by the spectacular show I didn't notice him come and lay by my side to gaze up at the sky with me.
He broke me away from my trance with a smile and he took my hand and pointed to a dazzling bright star above us.
It flared up and cut across the evening sky disappearing in the star lit dark sky.
Make a wish, he whispered softly over the chirping of the crickets.
I curled up against his side and answered softly.
I don't need a shooting star my wish has come true.
In the dark of the beautiful summer night we gazed up at the shooting shimmering stars, together.
