MABEL ESTHER
"We need to build more bodies if they are going to raid Yukon, Beta Scott." I am stationed in another safe house closer to the Alaskan border, " he was tempted to raid us a few days ago when Yda let her guard down."
She rolls her eyes at me, "it was the heat."
"No excuses." I click the sound bar on the radio, "we have over two hundred rogues for bodies, but we can't summon them to the raid."
Since they are rogues, we have no power of autonomy unless they are a threat to other rogue members of the law of rogues. No one seems to be in distress other than the occasional heat kill or aggression kill for land.
"Beta Scott?" I click the sound bar and it goes silent again.
I turn the channel to a different frequency, 'Alpha Mabel Esther to Beta Prescott Maslow, over?"
Nothing comes from his side. The static is loud as I switch back over to the other channel, my fingers cramp from how hard I am turning the dial on the soundbar.
"Beta Prescott to Alpha Mabel Esther, over?" Finally.
I click the button to speak, "Alpha Mabel Esther to Beta Prescott, over."
"Sorry Alpha, there was a disturbance on the other frequency." He says, "There was a demand of sorts from Alpha Ryden Levi, Alpha."
This gets my full attention, "How did he get our frequency?"
"I am not sure, he was asking to speak to you, but I wouldn't give your frequency for tracking availability." At least he is smart about it, intelligence is his wolf's specialty. "He wants to make a treaty sign with you."
I roll my eyes, "he had already said this before. What is this one entail?"
"He wants Yukon obviously, but he wants to give you bodies." Beta Prescott says, "The teens would be one group, but he wants to give us the rogue fugitives he has captured."
"Why wouldn't he send a messenger for this?" The radio cuts off and comes back on.
Yda moves around the safe house to look outside, she scans the area in the mutual human territory set up. She spots something across the street from where we are. Her shoulders slump in relief.
"Grace is here." I stand up from the table and push the radio towards her. "She is sitting on the park bench near the crooked tree."
"Listen for Scott and remember everything he says about the treaty and bodies." I grab my shoes from the floor and put them on, "discuss the possible raid and we will continue when I get back."
Moving forward, I rush out of the door to the bench across from the house. The wind picks up nearly enough with hot wind, but I acclimate quickly giving myself a cool down. The breeze passes by with no reaction from me for being too hot.
"Grace." I allow my presence to be known to her, "she places her hand out in front of her.
I take her hand in mine, "how have you been?"
"It was wobbly for a while, but I have come to my senses again." I take a seat next to her as she explains her whereabouts to me. "They moved me out of Alaska right after you and Yda left."
"My senses were messed up because all of the bodies moved, but it seems that I have acclimated quick enough to get to you from where I was placed." Her voice quiets down for only me to hear, "it isn't a good idea for you to know just yet."
We sit here for a few minutes letting time go by as we visit using tactile signing. Her idea to communicate the first time we met, I didn't know how to sign. She was intrigued when I wanted to learn from her, we practiced many hours for many months until we could communicate swiftly.
