MABEL ESTHER

I've been in Nunavut traveling back and forth trying to get the patrol to back off, but they seem to only be obeying the command to "not raid or harm any rogues along their territory," from Alpha Ryden. On multiple occasions, I have radioed him to request that he command his wolves, but as the verbal treaty states, they are holding against the raid.

Most rogues are keeping to themselves as a way to keep the peace, some are retaliating by attacking beyond the territory, and others are retaliating against me. Either way, I have lost rogues over the last month. Many are sticking together in the foreign planes or in the winter glaciers farther North.

The summer months are coming which means more pups will be born and mating will appear again. Since most females are either born in the winter months or spring months, the mating will take place in gatherings in some rogue areas. I have only seen it once in my life, it was odd.

I plan to be hidden away from this next heat as much as I can without being detected. I know I will have to fight my wolf along with Ryden's, but if we want this to end, it needs to be this way.

"Lori?" I call out to my Beta's mate.

She was taken off guard when I showed up two weeks ago at the base. Her body was buzzing with fear and a little bit of annoyance, I caught her red-handed. There is no indication or evidence for any reason, but I am keeping a close eye on her.

Her son is getting older now and I have been frequenting him more often than not. His father should be here soon, he is taking my place while I go to Alaska to get some business done over there. Beta Prescott has been away from his family for too long and it is about time to let them be together.

Even if I don't trust them completely, it has been decent peace for a while. They both service the rogues and they both have helped tremendously over the last few months since the border issues have occurred.

Lori comes walking into my office, "Yes, Alpha?"

"I need you to look over the maps and documents regarding the placement of high-risk rogues." Her bounces up and down as her ponytail sways. "Your mate is coming tomorrow and I need everything to be set for him."

She smiles, "Of course." Her smile turns to a slight frown once she sees me glare, "and thank you again for letting him come here. I know he has important work over in Alaska."

My body ticks, "well, my work is still going on with a treaty plan. Beta Prescott has gotten other documents and plans ready for my arrival." It takes a moment to settle, "we are just switching places before we have to render all rogues."

Her head nods and looks down, "I have a question."

"What is it?" I stand up from behind my desk and grab some folders that I need to bring to the meeting tonight with some elders.

She huffs, "Do you think you are being too harsh on Scotty?"

"Harsh?" I puff my chest out, "how am I being harsh?"

She steps back from the desk where the documents and maps are. "He is a Beta, Lori. He has requirements, he must service me and this land of rogues."

"I know, but he has been restless and overworked." Lori locks eyes with me, "I just want him to be healthy."

A challenge. "You should have thought about that before you came here before you decided to mate with Beta, she-wolf." Her eyes soften and her gaze drops. "You need to realize that you are nothing here unless I tell you otherwise."

My eyes are dark, my wolf comes out, and I feel the rage coming forth once she doesn't back down. Her brows raise and I smell the fear coming off of her, she omits it well. She cowers below me on her knees and avoids my look.
