"I know you didn't, Torin. I'm just trying to reason with you," You finally sit down, sighing. Torin didn't speak, he slid against the wall into a seating position.
"This isn't fucking fair." He mumbled.
"It isn't." You press your hands on your temples.
His voice trembles, "She's really gone..." Your silence was a sign of agreement. You write your answers from the previous cop and your conversation. You look at Torin, his head hidden in his knees. You stand up and leave the room, passing the notebook to the female cop.
"Here, he was too upset to respond." You don't make eye contact with her and walk past. You grab your stuff and start to leave the police station. At the front desk, the phone rings. No one was in the lobby and your curiosity spiked. 'I can just tell a cop back in the investigation room to come to get the phone- but the call might be ended by then'. You pick up the phone but say nothing.
"Hello?" A woman's voice rings in your ear.
"Hello. This is the police." You speak clearly in a deeper voice.
"Hello! I want to report a missing person." The woman sounded rushed like she was about to cry.
"Who would you like to report, ma'am?"
"Jamie Parker" You pause. Jamie? You write it down on the small notepad next to the phone.
"What is your name ma'am?"
"Lindsey Parker. Jamie is my daughter." Of course. Homophobic mom, you forgot what she sounded like.
"Alright, we'll see what we can do," You hang up on her quickly.
Just as you stepped away from the front desk, Torin walked out. His eyes were teary and red, he looked at you.
"Why are you still here?" He scoffs.
"Why do you care?" You lean against the wall for some support.
"Whatever." He starts to walk past you, but your reflexes kick in and you quickly grab his arm.
"What the fuck was that for? What do you want, [Y/N]?" His anger quiets. He was tired, and so were you.
"Torin.." You don't know if he'll listen to you unless you tell him what you just heard.
"What?" He pulls his arm away and turns to you. "Don't the cops need to question Jamie or something?"
"They can't be questioned." You look directly into his eyes.
"Why?"
Your voice cracks, "Jamie went missing, Torin."
