Hello! Currently chrome is down for me at the moment so I'm using Firefox to update this work. So, I apologise in advance for the asterisk and star dividers are not centered.

This chapter takes place inside a church so, I tried to tone down writing graphic imagery especially with blood. If you don't feel comfortable reading violence in a church, I have written a summary of the chapter at the end. Thank you for reading far into my work and enjoy reading ^^

Kol's pov

Carrying a basket in one hand, I stroll around the vicinity. Lanterns, dimly lit, hang at the entrance of the doors. Their flames, flickering against the melody of the wind. Stopping at the cobblestone stairs, I examine the doors for enchantments. Aside from the streaks etched into the doors, and the intricate designs embedded, a subtle scent of blood wafts towards me.

Pushing one of the doors open, I close the door on my way in. Walking through the aisle, I stare up at the ceiling. Above the rows of benches that halt at the steps, vibrant strips suspend in a curving pattern. Lifted by sticks poking out of the structure, the strands form arcs, rising and falling like the gentle ripples of water in colours of blue, purple, green and pink. Lanterns positioned on each side of the wall are decorated with stars floating above them. On the other hand, the benches are decorated with ribbons and mistletoes.

Amidst the bright decor, my mother stands at the podium, her back turned to me, engrossed in something. Curious, I dart to her, standing a few steps away; whether she's lost in thought or oblivious, I make my presence known.

"Hello, mother".

She whirls around , her reaction delayed. "Oh, OH, Oh! My dear, Kol. It's so good to see you." As she reaches out to embrace me, I sidestep and present the basket in my hand, draped with a cloth. "Word has gotten round that you're hosting a gathering soon. So, I have come bearing gifts."

"You didn't have to, dear."

I shake my head. "No, I insist, open it."

Her fingers pull back the cloth. Inside the basket, an empty vial rests in the centre. Her eyes widened with confusion.

Taking the vial out, I observe her attempts to find words. "This is quite unexpected. Is there more to this?"

A smirk swings into the curvature of my lips as I watch her bewildered expression. With a swift motion, I thrust the basket forward; with rejoice, I shout the word "Surprise!" as I drive the stake slowly into her abdomines. Driving the stake deeper and deeper and transitioning to a sitting position, I watch as her speech splutters. "Kol, what did you do? What are you doing-"

I place a finger in front of her lips to hush her. Cradling her in my arms, I lean in closer and whisper in her ears, "I don't believe in hell but I hope the other side comforts your loss with glee, mother."

Clinging onto me with the remaining strength she has-which isn't much, I push her hair out of her face and reassure her ire expression. "It's okay mother. It's okay. Everything will be alright."

Looking at the stake pressing inside her stomach, I push the weapon deeper until I hear a groan. Within a few seconds, the weight of her hands lightens and her movements cease, falling to the ground and then, lying motionless on the ground. Sitting in silence, I wait for any sign of movement such as a twitch in her fingers but nothing comes.

Laying her facing up, I scan for the empty vial. Bending down, I recover the vial from her loosened hand. Moving to the wounded area, I twist the vial's lid open and collect some of her blood until it's full. Squeamish at the sight of well, mother lying down in the centre of the podium; blood running out of her body and seeping itself into the red carpet.

Flickering my eyes to the decor embracing the church's interior, I release a laugh of disbelief. Her efforts to make the church less eerie are going down the drain unless...

Hanging the vial onto a chain, I drag her body to the nearest bench from the steps and drop her on it. Aside from the eye catching wound she has, I look around the podium to see if any evidence needed to be disposed of. There wasn't. Exhaling a sigh of relief, I look at her motionless body.

Turning my back and walking towards the door, the surrounding lights reflects off the vial hanging around my neck.

Standing in front of me, a few feet are the mansion's imposing gates, bearing the letter 'M'. Grabbing onto the cold iron, I climb over the gates. Unconventional? Perhaps. Hygienic? Certainly not. But, right now, style was the least of my concerns. Especially if it would cause a commotion; a commotion would make it difficult to leave discreetly. Even if it's dark. Brushing off the dirt, I approach the entrance. The lights were off. Good.

Pushing the door open, cautiously, I step inside and close the door behind me. A soft thud occurs when the door is pushed back into its position. Immediately, the lights turn on, revealing Rebekah, Finn, Elijah, Klaus and Hayley. Hayley is standing up, hands crossed with Finn and Klaus. Good lord, it's bloody Thanksgiving again. Mentally rolling my eyes, I lock eyes with each of them one by one to follow their line of sight. In that very moment, it dawns on me: they have been expecting me.

A sinking feeling settles in my stomach.

"Oh shit".
