The Daughter of Fire

Chapter 4: AEGIS

After what felt like an hour long drive, though it could have been longer  Caroline lost track of time.
"We're here". Agent Moore said getting out of the car, Caroline was escorted into what looked like an old hunting cabin.
"What is this place, what are you gonna do to me?" Caroline said understandably concerned for her safety.  The agents said nothing and escorted her into the cabin.
"Agent Jefferson uncuff  miss Williams" the agent proceeded to take the off allowing Caroline to rub her wrists.
"Miss Williams you'll find a change of clothes in the next room, the shower has hot water, agent Jefferson and Jacobson will be in the main room if you need anything don't be afraid to ask, I'll be back later tonight".
Caroline walked into the bedroom and looked at the clothes, they were kinda her style, Caroline then sat down on the bed and pulled out her phone and looked at a photo of her and Amelia together when they graduated high school, Caroline wiped a tear from her eyes and stood and walked into the bathroom for a hot shower.
15 minutes later.
Caroline walked into the main room "so I assume you guys would object if I called Amelia to tell her I'm ok?"
The agents were concentrated on their card game but agent Jefferson said one thing, "Your in trouble, your free to make any calls as long as you don't say where you are or give away any information that can be used to track you".
Caroline smiled and walked back into the bedroom and sat on the bed and dialed Amelias number, "come please Amelia pick up the phone" Caroline said muttering to herself.
After awhile the call went through "Hello, Caroline are you alright, where did the FBI take you, your dad is on the phone with his lawyers their gonna try and get you free, please Caroline I miss you".
"I'm ok Amelia, I don't know where I am but please Amelia please don't worry about me, I'm sure wherever their taking me I'll be fine, promise me you'll take care of my dog Aspen?"
"I promise Caroline and stay safe, whatever happens know that I'll always love you forever".
"I love you too Amelia" Caroline said before the call ended.
Right as the call ended agent Jefferson walked into the room, "Come on your rides here".
Caroline walked outside to see a helicopter and more agents standing around, "Miss Williams if you'll please board the helicopter?" Agent Moore said offering Caroline a hand.
Caroline put on a headset upon boarding "Earlier in the car you called yourself AEGIS, what's that?" Caroline said curiously.
Agent Moore smiled "I'm sorry I'm not at liberty to divulge that information but you can ask the director when we get to the bunker so sit back and enjoy the ride".
"What about my family and Amelia, they think I was arrested by the FBI how long till they contact the FBI and ask about me?" Caroline said inquisitively.
Agent Moore looked at Caroline, "Miss Williams we have procedures in place for this situation so stay calm".
After a long and tense helicopter ride they arrived at a secure government facility, as soon as they landed Agent Moore disembarked from the helicopter Caroline and the 2 agents followed, "Director Richards sir" agent Moore said saluting.
"At ease agent Moore, this must be miss Caroline Williams?" The director said looking at Caroline.
Caroline looked uneasy "excuse me sir, what is this place?"
The director smiled "follow me, you too Agent Moore" the director said as he walked further into the base.
"Miss Williams we are AEGIS, we are the shield that protects the world from the darkness of groups of people like Basilisk, we were formed in the late 1980s by Emily Williams and a group of former military, scientific minds and government agents to make sure basilisk never gets ahold of an advanced individual".
Caroline stopped "wait Emily Williams, my aunt was a founding member of this organization, mom said aunt Williams was a crazy conspiracy theorist and cut ties with her because she didn't want us to get involved in her theories?"
The director stopped and turned to face Caroline "That doesn't surprise me, Emily Williams was a phenomenal woman who had an incredible gift, one that you possess Caroline, you see Emily was what's called a Daughter of Fire someone who's been gifted by an ancient power dating back to the Assyrians and Durrensvier, for centuries the daughters of Fire have used their gifts to help people and to defeat the evil that is Basilisk, your aunt was one of these daughters and so are you which is why it's important we found you before basilisk."
The director continued walking till stopping a room "here's your quarters Caroline, the kitchen is fully stocked, full Cable TV."
Caroline walked into the room and picked up the tattered journal and opened it "Ah Emily's journal, she wrote about she knew about the daughters of Fire, she entrusted it to me to make sure the next daughter of Fire got it" the director said wiping a tear away.
Caroline set the journal down and then sat on the couch "all this is alot to take in, I'm just an ordinary girl from Wyoming who lost her family because her mother, I'm not a daughter of fire, I don't know what I did in that diner but it doesn't feel like a gift."
The director placed his hand on her shoulder "I know it seems hard but I promise you once you see what your doing at AEGIS I have faith you'll come around, anyway when your up for it Agent Moore will escort you to the conference room, please Caroline take all the time you need" the director said leaving the room.
Agent Moore walked over to Caroline "as the director said I'll be right outside when your ready".
Caroline stood up and looked at agent Moore "thank you agent Moore"
"Please call me Elizabeth" Elizabeth said offering Caroline a hug.
Caroline graciously accepted the hug.  "I'll be right outside, take some time to explore your quarters, AEGIS spares no expense to make sure it's agents have the best."
Suddenly something came over Caroline and she kissed Elizabeth on the lips.
