Chapter 11: Revenge

Caroline walked out of the bar, with Albert following behind. Right as Caroline was about to get in the car a police car pulled into the snowy parking lot, and a Maine State trooper got out of the car and walked over to Caroline, "Excuse me ma'am have you seen this woman?" The officer said showing Caroline a photo of her, Caroline held back the urge to do anything "uh no, I'm sorry" the officer thanked her and walked over to Albert. Caroline got in the car and Albert followed getting in the passenger side, once Caroline saw the officer walk inside she turned to face Albert "Who sent you?" She said with a Glock aimed at Albert, Albert just looked past the gun "Agent Moore sent me to find you, no I don't know where she is, protocol is in the event of AEGIS being burned all agents are to go deep-cover until the all clear signal, now I'm normally a deep cover operative so I learned AEGIS was burned when Elizabeth contacted me and told me to find Caroline Williams, so mind telling me why your in Maine?"

Caroline thought to herself, remembering the 5 months she spent on the run and her sisters death "I found Basilisks headquarters, an old Cold War era nuclear bunker in rural Maine, don't ask how I found it". Right as Caroline had started the car in preparation of driving to the bunker when the officer walked back outside, "Hey stop the car" the man shouted as Caroline pulled away quickly and drove north.
After an hour of driving Albert looked over to Caroline, "I like your hair, it's nice" Caroline blushed a little "thanks I needed to dye it when I went into hiding" Caroline said messing with her hair with a free hand, maintaining one hand on the wheel as they kept driving, they then pulled into an old campground and got out of the car. "Come on bunker is this way" Caroline said walking down the snowy trail. The pair came across a run down bunker side entrance, outside was 2 soldiers disguised to look like park rangers. "Ok so I've surveyed this place for weeks now and I think I have a way in, the guards rotate twice every day and that is the only time that door opens so we only have a limited window of time to slip inside" Caroline said handing the Binoculars to Albert "wait that's your plan, Caroline that won't work, the moment those guards don't report in their gonna know something is up and lock down the base, we need to disable the alarm system, then take out these guards, and we're going to need some specialty equipment so let's head back to my motel room and I can call my guy who can requisition this stuff" Albert said setting the binoculars down. Caroline scoffed "fine we do it your way" the pair made their way back to the car and drove to Alberts motel room.

Upon arrival Caroline kept her jacket hood up as they walked inside "Ok make yourself comfortable, I'm gonna take a quick shower and then call up my contact" Albert said walking into the bathroom, Caroline meanwhile sat on the bed, remembering her sisters death and how her own girlfriend betrayed her and killed Sarah, Caroline pulled out a photo of her and Amelia and tore it in half before tossing it in the trash. After his shower Albert walked out and began making some calls.

Caroline took her coat off and climbed into the freshly made motel bed and went to sleep.  She then woke up back in her room, Amelia laying next to her "good morning Caroline" Amelia said smiling as she leaned in for a kiss, Caroline closed her eyes enjoying the moment, after the kiss she sat up in bed "Wait Amelia this is all a dream, I'm in a hotel in Maine not in bed with you?" Caroline said confused but Amelia just smiled and stood up and walked over to put on a robe, "Caroline what are you talking about, don't tell me your getting cold feet about getting married?" Amelia said sitting back down in bed.  Caroline stuttered to find an answer "uh no, I can't wait to marry you, your my soulmate".  Amelia smiled and stood up "good now go get ready, I'm gonna head to my place to get ready, my parents are flying in from Denver and should be here in a few hours" Amelia said leaning in for one more kiss before she left the room, Caroline stood up and walked to her door but it wouldn't open and so she stood there naked in her room, then she opened her eyes and was back in the hotel.  "Have a good sleep?" Albert said sitting at the motel room desk on his secure laptop.  "Yeah I just had the strangest dream about Amelia but I don't know why?" Caroline said climbing out of bed and walking over to Albert.

"Anyway I've found our way into the base, this vent is currently down for maintenance so we should be able to seek in through there to find information about their headquarters as this vent goes right over the security room so I've had my contact stash some knockout gas and gear nearby, so when your ready we can head out" Caroline grabbed her coat and walked out to the car with Albert behind.

Upon arrival at the entry point Caroline and Albert each got geared up and started to remove the maintenance cover and infiltrate the base.  "Alright drop the canister into the room" Albert said whispering as Caroline pulled the pin and dropped a can of knockout gas, after the gas deployed Caroline and Albert put on gas masks and dropped into the security room, "Alright I'll disable security alarms and monitor your position on cameras, you find information in the archives room" as Caroline was about to leave Albert pulled her close and kissed her on the lips "go save AEGIS".

Caroline silently snuck through the base, her only defense a suppressed M9 as her power wouldn't be stealthy.  "Albert I'm coming up on the archives room, 3 targets inside, wait why are Amelia and Zoe here?" Albert pulled up the archive camera "uh from the camera it looks like their looking at a box labeled, Project Omega, whatever that is, careful" Caroline found a vent she could climb into and made her way above the archives where she could overhear .  "So what's Project Omega and why does the Dr. need it?" Amelia said as Zoe looked through the files, "project omega was the final project his father worked on before the end of the war, it's believed to be a serum to revive Basilisk in a new host, Baron Von Klaus II is meant to be that host, found it alright let's move, officer lock down the archives once we're gone, Hail Basilisk" as soon as Amelia and Zoe had left Caroline took aim and fired a shot killing the soldier before dropping down, "Albert Project Omega is not a good thing" Caroline said searching for files on the base headquarters, "Yeah I'm looking at it here on their network, Caroline we have to stop this".

After a few minutes of searching Caroline found the location of the base in the blueprints and official documents "Albert I have the file meet me at the Exfil" Caroline said making her way out of the room and to the service exit where her and Albert would escape via a supply truck.  As they escaped on the supply truck they could hear the base alarm go off for an intruder alert but they were long gone, upon ditching the truck and making their way back to the motel room Caroline was surprised to see Elizabeth and the Director sitting in the room "Elizabeth how'd you get here?" Caroline said confused, Elizabeth instead hugged Caroline "Albert let us know to meet here after you two got back with the intel, so let's see it" the four gathered around the bed as Caroline laid out the information about the base.
"Fredericksburg, Virginia, according to these blueprints their based out of a research laboratory just outside the city limits, so Elizabeth, director you still have any strike teams?" The director leaned forward "unfortunately no, I've lost my resources apart from my stashes" Caroline frowned a bit "then we do this together, one last operation to take out Basilisk and stop Project Omega, together" the look on the director's and Elizabeth's faces upon hearing those words caused them to go silent.
