Season 1 Episode 12
Ameka POV
"Lazy girl."
My eyes snapped opened, seeing Lucinda walking over to my curtains. She shoved them to the side, and rays rushed in, stinging my eyes.
"You wretched old woman, shut the dang curtains." I grumbled.
"Get up, you lazy bastard." She gave a growl.
"Can you tell me what time it is?"
"It's seven o'clock in the morning."
I'd only had two hours of sleep. Actually, it wasn't two hours because I spent some of it tracking Jackson and her probable side chick. What stung the most was that she was really attractive, so there was a good likelihood they were having an affair. I rolled my eyes; it would be a huge presumption.
"That's why you don't succeed."
"Whatever." I murmured. "Do you have internet access? Are there any?" I inquired as I stepped out of bed. I didn't get a chance to check my phone to see whether there was any signal in the house.
"What do you believe this was back in the 1970s?"
"Feels and seems to be." I mumbled, yawning with my lips open.
"No manners. Put your hand over your mouth."
I laughed and quickly closed my mouth. "Sorry about that."
Her gaze shifted to my legs. "What exactly are you wearing?"
"Shorts. Is there a problem with that, Lucinda? What? Should I wear my wedding gown to bed?" With a sarcastic tone, I inquired.
"Mrs. Stones is not going to like what you're wearing."
"She's not going to." I recalled this morning, when I vividly saw Kamila in terrible leggings. It was extremely brief. I don't perceive any change. "That seems like her issue, not mine. Go tell her about it." I stated this as I walked down the hall to the restroom. This morning, I believe, validated my thesis that maybe the workers do sleep someplace about here. Perhaps downstairs.
I strolled down the corridor till I reached Lily's room. The door was opened, but it was dark inside. It was almost unnerving just peering into the dense mass of darkness. How can such a young girl sleep in the dark without being terrified?
"Momma." Her gentle voice called. Despite my head conjuring up scenarios of a ghost contacting me, I was ready to walk in. Jackson grasped my arm. Her familiar black outfit, which covered her slender physique, caught my attention as I gazed up and down. The bags below her pale eyes reminded me of Morticia Addams from "The Addams Family." Her beautiful and sensual beauty was unaffected by the baggage.
"I was only checking on her," I explained.
"She's sound asleep."
I laughed. "She isn't sleeping. She just called out for me."
She sighed as she went inside the room and the light turned on.
My eyes widen as I notice a sleeping Lily. She appeared to be deep in slumber, or she may be pulling a prank.
"I swear I heard her calling to me." Although it wasn't my name, it was nonetheless considered a name. Maybe she's having nightmares.
"Does she talk to herself in her sleep?" I inquired.
"No."
"How do you know?"
"She's my child." She responded in a deadpan tone.
