"Cherry?" we, the girls, all said in unison. It didn't make sense: how does a sixteen-year old become mayor of a whole town, and why did she? That answer just made me even more curious than I was before. The boys just nodded.
"We better go tell Darry and Dal - let them know everything. We'll see you ladies later." Two-Bit sighed, and that was it - they left us there.
I loved hearing their voices again, even if it wasn't in person. They were the ones I wanted to get back to, so they kept me optimistic about it. And for some reason, this situation reminded me of a song that I couldn't help but sing.
It's been a long day without you, my friend. And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again.
I sang quietly. A small bright light shone from the mirror.
We've come a long way from where we began. Oh, I'll tell you all about it when I see you again. When I see you again.
Luna joined in, singing with be in unison. The light grew bigger.
How can we not talk about family when family's all that we got? Everything I went through you were standing there by my side. And now you're going to be with me for the last ride.
Tiger sang with us, making our voices louder and the light to crow bigger and brighter.
So let the light guide your way, yeah. Hold every memory as you go. And every road you take will always lead you home, home.
Kimi joined. The mysterious light was almost blinding, causing us to close our eyes.
It's been a long day without you, my friend. And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again. We've come a long way from where we began. Oh, I'll tell you all about it when I see you again.
We finished. The light burst like a balloon and caused the glass of the mirror and the town to twinkle. I quickly tapped the glass with my index finger, a broad grin spreading across my face at the result: it jiggled like jelly.
"We fixed it! We can get back!" Tiger exclaimed.
After exchanging excited hugs and high fives, we stood in front of the mirror, ready to go through.
"On three. One...two...three!" I counted, and we dove through the mirror. We didn't have to do much, though, since it jerked us inside.
My stomach lurched and twisted into a knot, just like it did the first time I went through. A bunch of emotions washed over me - excitement, nervousness, and happiness. I still had the feeling that something wasn't right, that something bad was going to happen. Nothing I couldn't take, though. We've already been through terrible things, so even if it was worse than everything else that happened to us, we would be used to it by now.
Once we landed, though, I noticed something strange: we didn't land in The Tasty Freeze or the park or even the Curtis house. We landed in a cold, dark, old-fashioned dungeon that was dimly lit by torches lining the walls. We were caged behind bars as if we were in prison, and seven silhouettes sitting on a long bench caught my eye. It was the gang.
