During events of Return Of The Jedi, Luke didn't killed his father, but was seriously injured by Darth Sidious Force Lightning that almost killed him, until his father Anakin Skywalker, formerly Darth Vader saved his sons life, but the cost being his own life as well.
Anakin was thankful that Luke freed him from being slave to Sidious and ending his suffering. Luke said that he still got to save him, only for Anakin say that he already did that and he is sorry for everything he did and never having chance to raise him.
As the Death Star exploded they died, but they were brought by the Force and Jedi Council and some of Sith from The Old Republic, who decided to that the Journey of Father and Son didn't ended and they have a second chance and they need to save another Universe from the Destruction, but they need to be trained by them to reach their potential and find their happiness and love in that world, especially the Older Skywalker.
After the Training both Skywalker's received, they had special gift of something called, The System with Shmi Skywalker by their side.
Now as they are ready and they were sent world of Hoyoverse and the Galaxy similar to their own.
