The day was crisp, the air carrying the bite of early autumn. I was heading to a shoot, for the sidemen channel. Knowing it would be cold and I could be there the entire day, I threw on a random baseball jersey and joggers before heading out to meet Cal and Harry. We drove to the stadium together, anticipation building for the shoot ahead.
Upon arriving, I made my way over to the group of girls who were also part of the hiders team.
"Hi, I'm Valentina!" I smiled, warmly.
"Oh my god, it's so nice to finally meet you, Im Tenesse"
"Ahh I have been waiting to meet you, I'm Becky"
"And I'm Lauren"
They all welcomed me warmly, and we chatted, exchanging laughs. The excitement in the air was palpable as everyone geared up for the challenge.
The boys initiated the game with their introductions
"This video is the Sidemen vs 40 youtuber's in an epic game of hide and seek!, The countdown for the hiders starts now!" they all cheered.
Everyone started running in different directions, but I stuck with the girls.
We first found refuge in a random room, huddled together under some objects. Cal and Randolph joined us in our makeshift hiding spot.
Time ticked away, and an announcement echoed through the stadium, signaling that we could no longer hide in pairs. The boys had staked their claim, and it was now every YouTuber for themselves. I ventured down to the bottom floor, attempting to evade capture by navigating through corners and hallways.
Suddenly, the echo of footsteps reverberated down the hall, accompanied by Ethan's command to Harry: "GET THEM."
Panic set in as I sprinted, seeking refuge in the nearest door, which happened to be the girls' toilets. In a stall, I held my breath as I heard them approach.
Within minutes, the door creaked open, revealing Harry. He put his finger to his lips, urging silence. I offered a nervous smile, and he left,
"She isn't in there mate!" he exclaimed.
As soon as the coast was clear, I emerged, grateful for the close call.
The hunt continued, and in desperation, I found a dumpster outside filled with an odd assortment of objects. Climbing up the ladder, I sat on a random trampoline, a mix of adrenaline and amusement coursing through me.
Lying on the trampoline, I scrolled through TikTok, attempting to kill time as the game continued. An announcement echoed through the stadium, restricting us to the first floor. Luckily, I didn't have to move—I was already there.
As I idled away another half-hour, I heard JJ's voice,
"Yo tobi, this would be a good ass hiding spot" JJ laughed.
Tobi joined in on the banter as they climbed the ladder, spotting me lounging on the trampoline within the dumpster. Tobi couldn't help but laugh, commenting on my choice of a chilling spot.
"Nah of course Valentina would be the one lying on a random trampoline, on her phone chilling, in a dumpster!". The boys both burst out laughing.
They both decided to take a short break, joining me for a few minutes.
"We have been running around for hours, we really did ourselves over here" JJ stated
"Who even came up with this big of a stadium?" Tobi said cackling.
We shared laughs and took some pictures, finding humor in the fact that we were sitting in a literal dumpster.
Eventually, we hopped out, and I joined the other eliminated contestants, waiting for the game to conclude. Harry approached, and we decided to take a smoke break while I waited for Thomas to pick me up. Outside, laughter and conversation filled the air,
"Hey Harry"
"Hey Val"
"Why didn't you tell Ethan that I was in the bathrooms?" I asked.
"Well it would completely ruin you're youtube career, y'know being one of the first ones out" He laughed.
Playfully, I pushed him, and as Thomas pulled up, I stubbed out my cigarette and waved Harry goodbye.
I hopped into Thomas's car, and his first words were,
"Don't smoke, it's not attractive."
He started the car, in complete silence.
