I scrubbed the counters for at least ten minutes, there was no stains on it, but I scrubbed and cleaned like I haven't done it in months, it helped, it felt like I washed a couple of my worries away, but in the back of my mind his smug face was all I could see.

His beautiful smug face.

Tears stung my eyes as I stared at the counter blankly. I wanted to talk to him, I wanted to hug him, but he made it so difficult for me, I just couldn't see past the disappearing.

The sound of someone knocking filled my ears, I groaned and quickly wiped my tears.

I rushed through the living room and pulled the doors open, I regretted it immediately.

"Hello, beautiful, been awhile."Jasper smirked and something in my stomach turned.

Jasper, he moved in the neighborhood about two months ago and I haven't had peace since. He was about 20, average height and blonde hair, there were things wrong with him as far as I've noticed, one, he was way too young for me, and two, he never knew how to take no for an answer.

"Hello."I responded dryly.

"I came to check up, we haven't talked in weeks."

"Five days."I corrected him and he laughed.

"I missed you."

I swallowed hard, the discomfort on my face and around was could have been noticed from space, to anyone but him.

"Jasper, if you don't mind, I have some things to take care of."I tried closing the door but he placed his foot to stop it.

"So soon? I've been looking forward to catching up with you."

My eyebrows raised up and I crossed my arms."Like I said, I have things to take care of, we can get a raincheck."

His smile dropped slightly, the change in his eyes made my skin crawl.

"Come on, it's just a friendly conversation."

"She said she has other things to take care of, I suggest you pack it up and keep moving."

I turned and followed the stern voice. Kingston. Of course he was still in my house, walking around like he owned the place.

His stare could have pierced a hole through Jasper's body if his eyes were lasers, Jasper had a similar death stare, but it was nothing like Kingston's, Kingston's eyes always had something special about them, you just knew that he was a man that played no games.

He stepped beside me and his arm wrapped around my waist. Our bodies were like two puzzle pieces that fit together perfect, the crook of my waist was a perfect place for his arm to rest, but his slightest touch brought back painful memories that drowned the so called butterflies I felt in my stomach

He held me against his side firmly as his eyes focused on Jasper, the entire room felt like it was getting colder by each second, now that's what I liked to call the Kingston tension.

"Is this your brother? I'm Jasper, nice to meet you."He stretched his hand out and I winced, that was bold, too bold.

Kingston's eyebrows arched and to my surprise, he smiled, smirked actually.

That was—different, the Kingston I knew would have had this guy in a headlock by now.

"You must be the gardener."

There it is.

Jasper tensed."No? Haha of course not, I'm Adelaine's friend."he forced an awkward laugh.

"Adelaine's friend? I'm Adelaine's husband, of nine years. The name's Kingston."

Yeah, right. If only he was acting like one.
