As I successfully managed to convince my friends that Topper insisted I attend the Kook party that evening, they dropped me off at home for a quick change. Once ready, I decided to pay an overdue visit to an old friend, feeling the weight of gratitude towards Rafe Cameron for bailing out John B.

As I ascended the stairs leading to the inside of the trailer, Luke Maybank, JJ's dad and the notorious Island drunk, emerged from within. "Hey, pretty thing," he greeted, a leering grin on his face.

"Disgusting," I muttered through gritted teeth, eager to avoid any unnecessary interaction with Luke. I swiftly made my way into the trailer, where my old friend Barry resided. "Barry!" I exclaimed, spotting him.

He rose from his chair with a genuine smile. "Lia, man, I haven't seen you in ages," he greeted, closing the distance for a handshake.

"You're looking hella fine," I complimented, and we shared a playful laugh.

"Come on, follow me."

"Not much changed around here," I observed, taking in the surroundings.

"Apart from you being a stranger," Barry remarked, taking a black bag from the wardrobe and dropping it onto the bed.

"My teenage dirtbag days are over," I teased, both of us reminiscing.

"Okay, let's see what I have here," Barry said, rummaging through the bag. "Do you want your usual? Or do you wanna try something new?"

"Oh, no, no, no," I shook my head. "This is not for me. I'm here for Rafe's usual."

"You and Country Club are back together?" Barry inquired a hint of curiosity in his eyes.

"Nope," I clarified. "Just being a good Samaritan."

"A good Samaritan?" Barry teased.

"Does he buy often?" Curiosity piqued my interest.

"Careful there, Lia, you sound like you care."

"Yeah, I have a bad habit of caring too much," I admitted. "Is it still as bad?" I asked, genuine curiosity colouring my expression.

"Still as bad, but he doesn't buy all the time," Barry responded, offering insight into Rafe's erratic behaviour. My confusion lingered as Barry continued, "He doesn't pay for the shit. Not always."

"Is he crazy?" I furrowed my eyebrows, finding it hard to comprehend Rafe's actions.

"You should've taught him better," Barry chuckled, acknowledging the shared history between us.

"Clearly," I agreed.

"Let me tell you something," Barry began, adopting a serious tone. "He screws me... it's not just me that he's screwing."

"Yeah," I nodded, understanding the deeper implications. "Anyways, thanks, Barry."

"He's an idiot for letting you go, Thornton," Barry remarked with a smile.

"Shut up," I playfully shot back.

"Don't be a stranger," he urged.

"I'll see you around," I said, turning to leave but not before blowing a kiss his way.

As I stepped out of the trailer, I couldn't help but reflect on the tangled web of relationships in the Outer Banks, knowing that sometimes the past couldn't be entirely left behind.

As I entered the typical Kook party scene — a lavish mansion, pool, and a sea of drunken dancing rich kids — I exchanged greetings with a few familiar faces. The atmosphere buzzed with the frenetic energy of a wild night.
