"Code Red!" Pope's urgent call sliced through the air, prompting Kie to assist me onto the boat, confusion etched on my face.
"What the hell is going on?" I questioned.
"John B and JJ are conked out in the Marsh. They need a tow," Pope explained, urgency lacing his words. "We need you for mechanical," he added.
"Can't Kie do it?" I glanced at her, hoping for an escape from the unexpected situation.
Kie scoffed in response, "Apparently they need more sets of hands."
Pope navigated us through the Marsh, heading towards the distressed boat where John B and JJ were stranded. Pope stayed on the HMS Pogue while Kie and I climbed aboard the other boat.
"What happened?" Kie asked as we observed JJ and John B attempting to fix the boat.
JJ shrugged, "Uh, the alternator's not alternating anymore."
"It's not charged," John B added, the simplicity of the explanation only deepening my confusion.
"Did you check the plugs?" I suggested, a common troubleshooting step.
Their blank expressions confirmed my suspicion — they hadn't.
I huffed in exasperation before crouching down to assess the situation, my hands instinctively moving to fix the boat.
I turned to Kie with a resigned look, "Do we have to do everything?"
"Seems like it," Kie sighed, brushing her hair out of her face. "They're useless—"
"Wait, Kie," I interrupted, my frown deepening. "There are no plugs."
"What?" Kie questioned curiously, disbelief coloring her expression. "Is this some kind of joke?"
Frustrated and puzzled, we ran out to see JJ and John B climbing onto the HMS Pogue with Pope at the helm, driving away without a second thought.
"John B! John B!" A voice echoed from below us. "Let me out!"
I bent down and opened the hatch, revealing Sarah Cameron. Her eyes widened, mirroring my own surprise, while Kie rolled her eyes in frustration.
"You gotta be fucking kidding me," I muttered through gritted teeth.
"Get your asses back here!" Kie yelled, her frustration matching mine.
"We can't!" John B called back. "Not until you three figure it out."
Sarah shouted, "You can't just leave!"
"There's food in the cabin, and JJ rolled a blunt," Pope shouted, adding a thumbs up for emphasis.
"Hydroponic!" JJ chimed in.
"I will kill every single one of you!" I yelled, frustration coursing through my veins as I ran my hands through my hair.
"Why am I involved in this?!" Kie shouted.
"This is ridiculous," Sarah muttered, capturing the absurdity of the situation perfectly.
"I would rather drown than stay here with you," I declared, my patience wearing thin.
I shot Sarah a spiteful look, and she, in her typical fashion, fired back, "Fine, be my guest. Maybe you'll finally shut the hell up."
Sarah swiftly discarded her tank top and shorts, revealing a bikini underneath, before plunging into the Marsh, attempting to catch up with the boys' boat.
"You don't even know where you're going," Kie scoffed annoyedly.
I sat down on the edge of the boat, my feet dangling just above the water, holding a cigarette between my fingers. "Someone kill me now."
