Belle's Perspective

The Great Hall was annoyingly loud for such an early morning hour as I sat at the Ravenclaw table with Samantha and Lila, who were giggling in front of me for whatever reason I cared not to listen to.

Using a silver fork, I played with the cold scrambled eggs and toast on my plate while my cheek rested on my fist.

I hated Mondays so much that I was willing to make some excuse about my health just so I could skip class today. It took all of my willpower not to go running to the Hospital Wing and dramatically fainting on the floor for no reason at all.

At least, not like in sixth year where I actually did have a reason...

"Belle, are you alright? You look pale." Samantha reached for my forehead.

I chuckled, shaking my head out of my daze and catching her hand before she could feel my temperature. "I'm fine."

Samantha smirked. "Okay, just making sure."

"Yeah, I don't believe it for a second." Lila clicked her tongue against her teeth, then slid some pumpkin juice over to me. "Here, drink. You're going to need your energy, especially for DADA class in a few minutes."

My face fell for a split second before I masked it again. It has been a while since I've been at the Hospital Wing for other reasons beyond the headaches I've been getting lately. Was kind of hoping Lila would've forgotten about it by this year.

After all, there was a big reason I hadn't accessed my ancient magic since...

Since Sebastian.

I found out a little too late there were consequences to using the ancient magic I'd developed, so I stopped. It was a "small" fact about me that I hadn't confessed to Ethan or anyone else. I had no reason to. At least, not yet.

I snorted, taking the cup. "I am fine," I repeated, then narrowed my eyes at Lila who knew more than anyone, including Samantha. "I swear, Lila. I haven't been...not fine. Not like since last year."

"I'm sorry, am I missing something? Belle, are you sure you're alright?" Samantha's brows furrowed, eyes darting back and forth between me and Lila.

Lila's gaze burned right into mine, ignoring Samantha. "Drink."

I rolled my eyes with a smile, then drank. In the few seconds I gulped down the pumpkin juice, I thought about how Lila was just like my sister, so long ago...always worrying about me.

"Just my usual headaches, Sam. Don't worry," I half lied, pushing the plate away from me. I don't think I was capable of keeping any solid food down today.

"Hmm, if you say so." Samantha leaned by her elbows close to me, a teasing grin on her lips as she whispered, "Because we all know you've been spending an awful lot of time in Ethan's dorms these days when his roommates aren't around. Just let us know if you need some kind of potion you know?"
