33 | Snowed In

Belle's Perspective

Sebastian reached for my hand before I could even process what was happening when the snowstorm hit. I thought we had time to get out, but the weather had a mind of its own, flipping against us in the blink of an eye.

Behind us, the forest swayed violently, the wind roaring so loud I could feel it shake the ground. A panicked look haunted Sebastian's warm hazel-brown eyes, but it seemed like it was more so for my sake than for his, leaving me with an equally intense concern for him.

He held on to me with a strong, protective grip. But I'd be lying if I said the storm's force wasn't making it difficult to hold on to each other. The zephyr had paved the way for the gale in less than a second, knocking me off my feet. Sebastian had caught me in time.

My heart pulsed loudly as I assessed the situation around us. The wrathful wind was making it difficult to see where we could even find shelter against it.

I reached underneath Sebastian's scarf wrapped around my neck as I had before, palming the skin on my chest between my collarbones. Yet again, I did not know why.

To seek comfort? On what?

"Shit," Sebastian suddenly cursed against the strong wind.

The broomstick we used to fly here got swept away, leaving us stranded. I knew it wasn't a great idea to fly in this storm anyway, but still, we might need it.

I put up an arm to shield my vision against the snowstorm and took my wand out. "Accio!" I cast, attempting to summon the broomstick. "Sebastian, the wind's too strong! I can't summon it."

"It's fine," he reassured me, gripping my hand tighter. "Too dangerous to fly in this weather either way. I can apparate us to Feldcroft, hold on to me—"

"Look out!" I tackled him on the ground just as a big tree branch flew overhead, and some debris that might've once been part of a wooden fence.

Sebastian panted, giving me a grateful look for saving him from getting decapitated. That could've ended badly, honestly. We fought against the storm just to get up, our winter attire now covered in freezing snow that I was sure would soak us to the bone as soon as we were out of here.

We just needed to apparate.

But it was never that easy was it? Not for us.

Four wizards, who I might've mistaken for poachers, materialized from the forest to our right. After a quick assessment of their attire, I realized they were just raiders. The same ones we fought when we investigated Isidora's old home in Feldcroft.

A sigh of frustration left my lips because I truly did not have time for these idiots right now. But I knew damn well they wanted to use the blizzard to their advantage for whatever reason that may be, so here we were.

Sebastian and I exchanged knowing looks, readying our wands. If the raiders were here, chances were they would either leave to go to Feldcroft or Irondale. Neither of us wanted that to happen. They would only steal from the innocents who lived there.
