Belle's Perspective

Sebastian and I pulled apart from our dancing as the music slowed to a softer tune. I curtsied and he bowed as if we were two royals who had just been forced to waltz together in front of an audience and how much we had fun despite that. And I did. I had fun. I couldn't help the giggle that escaped from my lips when I straightened up again, and Sebastian led me back to our blanket fort.

I didn't know how he did it, but with the way I followed his lead, I forgot about everyone. It was just me and him dancing like no one else was around.

There was no looming threat. No broken friendships. No tear in my world. No ancient magic burning me from the inside out, and no missing pasts that ate at my curiosity.

It had all been perfectly fine.

At least, until some annoying Hufflepuff blonde crashed into me on purpose as she whooshed past the blankets, breaking my hold on Sebastian's hand from the force.

Sebastian couldn't react fast enough. Luckily, my bum landed on a pillow when I didn't catch my balance, barely avoiding a Gryffindor's lovely cup of hot chocolate that could've stained my outfit.

I murmured a quick apology to the Gryffindor—Alexander, as it turned out—who flashed me a dazzling grin, reminding me why Lila fancied him.

He said, "Nothing to worry about."

Then Sebastian immediately helped me up as Adelaide murmured and complained. "Can you watch it?! You almost ruined my outfit."

When I got up to my feet, my previous anxiety about how tonight would go was quickly turning into rage. I gently shook Sebastian's grip on my arm and took a step toward Adelaide, her face revealing all the grudge she still held for me. I could only guess why.

But before I could speak, Sebastian said to her, "You realize my girlfriend wasn't at fault. You weren't looking where you were going."

Adelaide crossed her arms and scoffed. "Girlfriend. How rich."
