Vunerable

I sit patiently in the back of Suguru's car as we drive through the busy lights of the city to go back home. If I can even call Suguru's estate home. I rest my head against my elbow which is propped up against the car window, watching the neon scenery whizz by. The evening was boring, a load of clan politics, I don't know why I expected an actual party. It seemed my initial assessment of the party was inaccurate.

My eyelids begin to droop and my head repeatedly slips off my hand as I attempt to stay awake, the multitude of cocktails I consumed this evening making me feel woozy. As I shift in my seat, kicking off the heels that Suguru so kindly gave me into the footwell, I rest my head against the headrest to attempt to get comfortable. My eyes flick towards the driver's mirror, and I catch a glimpse of Suguru staring straight ahead at the road.

I wonder if he had fun tonight? I mean, all this party turned out to be was a show of wealth for the Gojo clan. I guess my opinion is swayed because I didn't know many of the people there on a personal level. To me, they're all work colleges. Satoru seemed to be having fun at least (so much fun that he's now passed out in the passenger seat) Suguru on the other hand... he remained with me the whole evening. I cringe at the fact he did this, it's not like he had to, but it did feel like I was being... babysat.

I'm snapped out of my rambling thoughts as Suguru's piercing black eyes find mine in the mirror, his expression giving little away. I hold it for a second, being entranced in my inebriated state before turning my head to the side to look out of the window once again.

I manage to doze off for the remainder of the car journey, and I'm woken up by the sound of the car door next to me opening. I see Suguru standing next to me, leaning on the door as he waits for me to get out. I rub my forehead in an attempt to wake up before swivelling my feet out of the door, only to realise I'm barefoot.

"Oh." I say before reaching back into the footwell to put the uncomfortable heels back on. Hey, it's better than walking on gravel barefoot, right?

Before I can put them on, I watch as Suguru extends his arm towards me, taking the heels from my hand as I look up at him in confusion.

"I know they're uncomfortable." He says before leaning down to me and hooking one of his arms under my knees, the other around my waist. Before I know it, he's lifted me out of the car and is holding me against his chest. My arms instinctively find their way around his neck for fear of falling due to the unexpected gesture, and he shuts the car door swiftly before starting towards the house.

"You chose them." I mumble loud enough for him to hear and I watch as his expression breaks into a smile and he lets out a brief laugh. I don't know what he's finding so funny, but whatever it is, I wish he'd laugh like that more often.

My head lolls to lean on his shoulder as we make our way towards the house. I'm sure if I was sober right now this interaction would never have happened. I hear footsteps pace to catch up with us and a swaying Satoru joins Suguru at his side. As I laugh at his more-drunk-than-me demeanour, he shoots me an annoyed glare in response.

Finally reaching the house, Satoru fumbles with his keys for a few seconds before putting them into the door and entering. Once we do so, I tap once on Suguru's shoulder, causing him to look down at me confused in response. He soon realises that I'm asking for me to put him down and he does so carefully, his hand lingering on my waist as we walk down the hallway towards the kitchen.

I heave myself up onto a counter stool before leaning my forehead against the cold worktop with a sigh.

"You didn't have a good time, sweetheart?" I hear a voice asked from behind me as I feel a faint touch on the back of my neck. I turn my head to the side and see it's Suguru standing behind me in my peripheral vision. I feel his fingers brush the back of my neck once again as he collects my hair in his hand, pushing it to one side to lie over my shoulder.
