Chapter 3

I slowly climb out of my car and warily head towards Mrs Burkes porch. I walk up to the front door and open it while knocking to let Mrs Burke know that I’m here.

“I’m going to go and finish off the horses!” I call out to Mrs Burke not wanting to have a run in with that guy again.

“Ok dear but afterwards come in and you can have tea!” She replies back.

“I have to check with my mum first!” I shout again making a b-line straight through the house and towards the stable in the back yard.

“I don’t care if your mother says no because she never feeds you properly. You need to get some skin on them bones!” I let out a laugh at that. Mrs Burke never takes no for an answer and anything that she want she always gets.

“Fine I’ll have tea!” I call out in defeat as I open the stable doors.

“Are you sure?!” Is she for real? I don’t even have a choice in this matter.

“Yeah.” I reply quieter so I don’t scare the horses.

I garb the wheel barrow by the door and wheel it over where the three horses’ stables are. I walk into the first one- Trixie’s stable- and begin to shovel up the dirty hay.

Once it is full to the rim, I turn around to grab a new bail of hay when a voice startles me.

“Hello love-“He is cut of by my scream.

I turn around but lose my footing and fall back in the barrel. My head smacks against the back on the wheel barrel and I have to bite my lip from crying out in pain.

His loud deep laughter booms through the stables and stays as he walks out, without even offering to help me up.

I thrash about, struggling to pull myself up out of the barrel filled with horse waste. I finally pull myself up out of the barrel and still bite back the tears that threaten to fall over.

I stand up and brush of the front of my jeans and walk to the back of the stables where there is a hose. I tried to wash of all of the dirt off of my back, but I can’t get it all of, so now I have to finish off cleaning the horses out while soaking wet and covered in horse manure.

Once I finished I walked back into the house and head to the kitchen to tell Mrs Burke that I am just going to head home.

“Oh dear, there’s someone I want you to meet.” Mrs Burke calls out to me as she hears me walk into the kitchen.

“Can I just-?” She cuts me off.

“Jett come in here!” Mrs Burke shouts over me.

“What?” A very familiar voice says from behind me that makes my blood run cold.

I turn slowly and my eyes travel up the ripped jeans that cling to muscular legs and then over washboard abs and pecks. My eyes travel further up over broad, muscular shoulders and then to a god like face. Chiselled jaw and strong cheek bones, with lips that you just want to kiss all day.

“Lianna, this is my grandson Jett.” Mrs Burke explains but I don’t take my eyes away from this god like being standing in front of me without a shirt on.

“Hello love.” He greets me with a cocky smile on his face.

When I hear this, it is like someone has thrown a cup of cold water on my face. This is the same guy who almost bashed his car into mine, who took my parking spot, who almost had sex with Bianca in the sci-fi section and who scared me in the stables so I fell in horse manure and just laughed at me and walked away, without even helping me.
