I hurriedly finished my shower afraid of whatever Elliot was about to tell me. My biggest fear that he was leaving me. Irrational as it was, it was the thing at the forefront of my mind. I never told him Moroe was one of my clients, and I never planned to. That was the one thing he might see as unforgivable.

I slowly paced the room as I got dressed. I was terrified to open my door and face him. He was being very nice so the odds of him leaving me are slim, maybe he got a girl pregnant? What if he's the father of Sophie's baby? God Kara stop, chill you're being crazy.

Before I could make any other assumptions I opened the bedroom door. I found Elliot standing in the kitchen with a soft smile as I cautiously sat down. Without a word he gently put a plate of waffles down in front of me, his smile stayed on his face as he did.

"Rip the bandaid off. Just break up with me or tell me you're the father of Sophie's baby. Whatever horrible thing it is just say it because I think I'm going to vomit." I rambled without much thought as his face shifted. He just shook his head before looking back to me.

"Kara, really? Look at me." His words were annoyed but not angry as he turned my face to look at him. "First of all, I love you, I meant it when I said it."

"A lot of men have said it and not meant it." I said honestly as he gently pressed his lips to mine.

"Kara." His voice quiet was as he looked at me, his lips meeting mine again. "Stop freaking out."

"You make me all weird, and I kinda hate it." I whispered as our faces stayed inches away from each other.

"I love you." His words were still soft and genuine as he stood there with his forehead against mine.

"I love you too." I sighed surrendering as he kissed me one last time before pulling away.

"Hardison found your mother, your birth mother." He said flatly as he turned away from me to grab his plate. "Eat, your stomach is growling."

I did as I was told as I tried to let his words sink in. The food was almost impossible to eat as I waited for details, the anxiety nearly killing me. I didn't know what to expect, how to feel.

"Is she dead?" I asked not looking up from my plate.

"She's dead, Hardison found a photo of the two of you if you want to see." His voice was quiet and reserved as he sat down across from me.

"How'd she die?" I asked quietly still afraid to look up.

"Cancer, your grandmother lost custody of you when she died." His voice stayed steady as he spoke. I could hear him sigh, it was clear he didn't like having this talk with me. But he was probably voted as the best one to do it.

"She dead?" My words were shaky at best by this point. I was paralyzed sitting there, a flood of emotions was passing through me like a wave.

"Retirement home in California, she's 83 now." Elliot's words were not entirely sinking in as I sat there still frozen. "Hardison spoke to her."

"And?" I asked unsure if I wanted the answer. I kept fiddling with my food anxious.

"She remembers you, we can take some time off, go visit her." His voice was apprehensive as he spoke. Almost afraid of what I'd say.

"Did you find anything about my father?" I asked quietly pushing food around on my plate.

"There wasn't one listed on your birth certificate." He answered as I sighed.

"What's my real name?" I asked finally looking up at him.

"Carter, Carter Cline." Elliot answered looking at me as I held it together not wanting to break down in front of him.
