Hot And Cold
I look up at the ceiling and start making patterns on it as I wonder about many things. For example, what might Romeo be doing.
I pick up my phone to call him and remember I don't have his number. And I don't have the guts to ask for his number. I never do that. Normal boys gave it to me on their own. Romeo isn't normal. I need something to distract me. And the only thing that seems to do so is his face right now. Why am I thinking like this?
No.
It's stupid, I sniff. I set my phone on my night table and walk away from it as if it were some type of bomb that could shred me to pieces if I keep it near.
Thinking about it as a bomb doesn't help. My hands are itchy. I want to stalk his Facebook account. I want to see him at least like that. And if I get to see a picture of his delicious body, then it would be a plus. I might download a picture or two. Perhaps put it as my screen locker will scare him away. I might make this a game. Sounds fun.
"Shit!" I mutter as I pick up my phone and start going through his profile.
My eyes scan the images. There aren't many pictures of him. I expected there to be a lot, but seeing he only has ten; five with his sister and the rest of him alone makes me drool. I need more. His arms are muscular, I can't help having dirty thoughts. And that smile. It knocks me out.
And then my eyes fall on my favorite one. He is sitting on his motorcycle posing extremely sexy, with his shirt off, tight jeans, boots, and a hat. My legs press together.
Yee-haw!
My hormones are all over the place, they are killing me. Am I ovulating or something?
I save it for later use and head to his Instagram. I notice we've been friends since God knows when. Honestly, I had a little crush on him years ago, but knowing he's a Casanova now, I know he means danger. So I try to stay away from him. Our worlds could collide and create another explosion. I'm not sure we're doing something right.
Julissa's voice sounds in my head. "You are over thinking this."
I hear her voice again and this time I'm pretty sure it's not in my head. I close the app and walk out. Julissa is walking up the stairs and pauses when she spots me.
"Girl! Why aren't you ready? I told you to be ready by eleven."
I glare at her, then turn to my mom who is a couple of stairs behind her, and she smiles at me. I return the smile, then turn to look at Julissa who continues her journey to my room. Jude doesn't even remember I am supposed to be grounded but I won't take advantage of it.
I cross my arms over my chest. "You did not."
"Yes, I did."
"No, you didn't."
"Alright, alright. I didn't, but I'm here, so let's get you ready," she stops when she reaches the top where I stand. Her eyes look down at the journey she has made as she cleans an invisible sweat.
"Ready for?"
"Party," she screams, making a small dance.
"I think I'll pass."
"What! You not going to a party means the end of the world."
I roll my eyes and look at my mom who gives me a small nod in agreement. Not that my mother lets me do anything I want to, but she knows that holding me back would mean me doing things behind her back. I'm glad you know, Momma.
Except right now, I don't feel like partying. Maybe it's a sign of me getting old.
"Romeo is changing you!" She laughs.
I stiffen. Jude arches her eyebrows for me to elaborate, but I don't. She knows I never stick to one guy. It's no secret because I tell her about all of them. Except this one.
"What? No! Come on," I say, pulling her from her arm into my room.
"Shh! Don't talk about Romeo. Mom doesn't know."
"But I thought you tell her everything."
"Not this one."
"Why do you keep referring to it as if it's so important and different?"
"Are you high?" I change the topic. Talking to Julissa this way makes it hard for me to concentrate.
"Pfft. No!"
"Yes, you are. Does your mom know you're here?"
"She thinks I'm sleeping over with you."
"And you are," I point out.
If she ever gets home in this state, she's going to lose everything. Her parents are strict as hell; her career could be over if she makes one mistake.
