Happy Valentine's, Love
The purr of his motorcycle is a sound I can easily identify amidst the chorus of engines. My heart skips a beat as I open my car door and place my school bag inside. Even though I am both nervous and excited knowing he has stopped right behind me, I take my time.
I hear the gentle click of the stand hitting the gravel, and my skin tingles as I turn to look at him. His black leather jacket is slightly rolled up, revealing his watch. My stomach flips because that is so hot. I quirk a brow, hoping he will stop the impatient tapping he usually does with his foot on the footrest. I can't see his face, but I can sense a mischievous smile.
I throw my duffel bag over my shoulder and look at him. I can smell him from this distance, and I can't help but smile.
"What's up, Peter Pan?"
"I need to see you after practice," he says softly.
"Need?" I emphasize.
He nods.
"I don't think you need anything but to move out of my way."
He slides off the visor, and his eyes are smiling. There he is. My boy.
"Are you going to ignore my invitation?"
I shift my weight and frown. "Haven't you been doing that?"
"I delivered your car safely, didn't I?"
"That's not what I mean. I wanted to talk to you about what happened."
He stares at me for a few seconds and shakes his head. He removes his helmet and places it on his lap. He doesn't say a word as he continues looking at me. His face is freshly bruised, and I panic. Did he attack Michael again?
"I will murder you." I walk towards him. "Karina wouldn't want this for any of you."
He chuckles. "You think Michael did this to me? He scratches like a feline."
"Liar. If something happens to her because of the stress you are causing her..." I trail off and stop when I am in front of his face. "I will murder you and I mean it this time."
"I don't think you can kill me twice."
Can't he ever take something seriously?
"Romeo!" Chloe's loud voice resounds in the parking lot.
"And that's my cue," I tell him and start to walk around, but he stops me by grabbing my arm.
"I will wait for you out here."
"Don't wait for me. I can get home, and so should you."
His brows pinch in confusion, and I see him struggle to get his words out. "Happy Valentines, Love," he says.
My head spins at his words, and I am glad he is holding me. But Chloe interrupts us with her pathetic smile and annoying voice.
"Happy Valentines, Romeo. I made sure to put the gifts in your locker."
He releases his grip, and I hear her giggle when he says thank you in the background. As I head up, Holly is walking down the hall towards the exit. Her eyes brighten when she sees the silhouette behind me, and I suddenly get that pang of jealousy I had already forgotten.
