I accidentally slammed the door as we hurried to leave. Something was coming , something big and it was after Percy.Instinctively my hand clutched, Boneclever, my whip or lasso as Clarisse called it. It was from Ares, my deadbeat father.
I held onto Grover and Percy's hands as Sally sped through the night along the dark country roads. This was something so horrifying that it made you feel queasy to the stomach like the threat could pop out of no where and kill you. But , if the others were scared somebody has to be fearless. Rain lashes the winshield, temperarily obscuring our vision. Sally Jackson really knew how to see through a storm. She had a child with one too.
I kept whip clutched in my palm just in case or out of habit really. But either way having your weapon in hand can save you, especially if you don't know what's coming for you.
I felt Percy squeeze my hand as he looked over at Grov. I turned to him completely and squeezed back. "Listen Percy, everything will be very clear when we get to camp. I promise."
"So you and my mom know each other?"
I looked between Percy and Grover and I could almost taste how awkward this conversation was going to be.
Grover's eye flitted to the rear view mirror, though there were no cars. "Not exactly," he said. " I mean, we've never met in person. But she knew I was watching you."
"Watching?"
"Keeping tabs on you. Making sure you were okay. But I wasn't faking being your friend," he added hastily. " I am your friend."
"What about you, Y/n?" He asked turning his attention to me. I stared staright out of the rear view mirror like a coward avoiding the truth. "Are you human?"
"No. Neither are you Percy," I turn to him despite my internal battle and take his hand in my own. "In this life we are different. So different that we can not live the lives that we wished that we could lead. As long as we live we will always be apart of some else's plan."
"A pawn in a game? Like chess? And how am I not human? What are you Y/n?"
"A goddess. A young Goddess." And I looked away to hide the obvious look of stupidity that crossed Percy's face. Gods give me grace. "Like daughter of god?"
"Yes, two particular gods of Greek mythology. Aries and Aphrodite. The god of war and the godess of beauty."
Percy just stared at my with narrowed eyes for a second. "So all of that stuff back at the mesuem was real?"
I smiled. "Yes. That Fury was after you. For what. You'll have to find out at camp, we can't tell you anywhere else, it's to dangerous."
"So this camp of yours is like some kind of protection grounds for people like us?"
"Yes. There's no other place in the world where we could be safer. It's a do or die situation for us."
"And what am I?"
Sallys eyes met mine in the rear view mirror. She looked at me blankly before looking back at the road. She was scared for her baby, rightfully so.
"A child of-"
There was a blinding flash, a jaw-rattling boom!, and , our car crashed.
It all went in slow motion for me. I flew from my seat and out the windshield as the car spun. I screamed as I hit the floor at breakneck sped. The whip my hand flaring to life a sign that my father was angry. That he knew that I was in danger.
My arms stung as ripped flesh came in contact with the cold nasty asphalt. I hissed and reached into my pocket pulling out my bottle of nectar. I pulled the cap off with my teeth and hastily shoved the bottle to my lips.
