Cami was packing a bag when she heard a knock on her door. It was late, and she planned to return to The Compound far quicker...but with her apartment in someone else's name, she felt safe. It was far riskier travelling between The Compound and her apartment, expecting Klaus to come knocking after having the same realisation.

The smile she opened the door with vanished instantly.

"You," Lucien looked rugged, "Were quite the little hero today."

"Did I get in the way of your big bad revenge fantasy?" Cami stepped back from the door, hand slipping into her pocket, "You can't come in."

"Of course not," Lucien nodded, "You're a vampire now."

Cami would never understand MJ's ability to pocket text as she felt her own phone, opting to just hit the emergency contact button, knowing they could both hear the ringing clearly.

"Yet you still worry," He smiled, "I would too."

"What do you want?" Cami backed further into her apartment, "There's nothing you can get off me."

"Not entirely true," He leant towards the doorway, "You know, I have to admit, Nik might have been onto something with his intrigue in your head."

Cami shivered, desperately waiting to hear MJ pick up the ringing.

"Though...I must offer some advice."

"Go away, Lucien," She went to close the door in his face.

"Leaving your lease to someone!"

She stopped it from shutting, just a sliver of light cutting into her home.

"While instinct would advise you to keep that person nearby..."

Slowly creeping it slightly more open.

"...For when you want a friend to pop over for tea..."

For the first time since MJ's literal death, the ringing went to voicemail.

"It does make them incredibly vulnerable!" Lucien's hand touched the other side of the wood, "Not just any neighbour could do it."

Cami's eyes started to dart around, seeing the sigil MJ had etched into the doorframe.

"Perhaps someone who works from home?" He jested, enjoying how she redialled the number, "Not Gregory, though – no! He's moving out next month."

Cami bit her wrist, wiping it over the sigil, still pushing onto the wood as Lucien teased her – leaning just enough to prove he was over the threshold but letting her hope she might be able to get away.

"Not Letitia – 7B, no – she's agoraphobic, but Stephanie?" His volume going up, deranged, "Just down the hall?"

Cami let herself smell the blood beyond the door, "You leave her alone!"

"Well!" He finally shoved hard enough to send the door off its hinges, "That's going to be difficult."

Stepping forward, electricity caught him, jumping across his skin, only to cut out as he fought forward...

No one was meant to be able to move – not with that much power charged at them –

But MJ had sat in a supercharged lake and found a way. Because she was a hybrid. Because she was a witch. And Lucien now carried that magic as a protective fix to any problem, forcing Cami to vamp towards the balcony door, hand on the same cursed star that had once killed Monique.
