24th MARCH 2014
LAFAYETTE CEMETERY

The Cemetery was a strange place as night took over the city. The sky seemed oddly blue, stars clearer than normal, every torch aglow along the mausoleums, witches milling back and forth. They could still feel the touch of magic in the etched names, but something was different.

Something had shifted.

And at The Lycée, a group of people were trying to work out the specifics.

Davina had placed all her notes from MJ's video across the table, letting Tia read-through them, Pri curled up in a corner, legs pulled into her chest, staring at her phone.

Marcel and Vincent appeared from opposite directions.

They stared at each other.

It felt like they'd only just left each other, and MJ's body, and yet?

Midday had turned to night.

"You got info," Vincent lifted his own spell pages, "So do I."

"We're planning the next steps?" Marcel assumed.

"Not exactly," Tia's eyes were distant, "I saw it."

Both men frowned.

"I saw her," She stressed, "MJ was in the grove, and she ripped The Nwa in half."

Vincent almost smiled, "She pulled it off."

"I heard the spirits scream."

And she wasn't even on the ancestral wavelength.

"Yet..."

"The realm's still there," Davina confirmed, "The spell's incomplete."

"Waiting for us to finish it," Vincent was clinging to his pages, "If we focus on breaking the rune – "

"No."

Everyone stared at Marcel.

"Unless you guys can promise me only you can read it?" His eyes were deadly, "Nu-uh. We don't risk The Mikaelson's getting their hands on anything cohesive."

Vincent scanned him, deliberately focusing on Pri.

"Where's the Kitsure?"

"With Jeremy," She murmured, "He can't help."

Marcel scowled.

"Don't you get it?" Her eyes snapped up, "You can't just fuck with souls!"

MJ's risk had always been the Lifeblood Stone destroying hers.

"It's a punishment for witches because there's nothing they can do to reverse it, and Kitsune can only do so much! Once it's shattered, it's gone."

Vincent ran a hand along his spell pages, "You've seen him do this magic before?"

"No," Pri quietened, "But I've heard enough rumours."

Davina frowned, "Rumours are just – "

"Beni tried to save his mum!" She shut her eyes, "It almost killed him, and it didn't even bring her back."

Silence.

"Kitsune don't just die. Their extended lives catch up to them, and their final state?" Pri recited, "Their souls dissolve, the energy repurposed into a new 'tail' for any family present."

No one in the room had any frame of reference for his species.

"He tried to reform hers, thought it worked, then, she started eating dead rats," She explained what she knew, "Couldn't hold a conversation without screaming, and tried to murder him."
