26th MARCH 2014, 1 P.M.

Kol exited the police station, then paused.

Ryan Jung sat in front of the tan-coloured building, four white pillars marking the entrance, half-steps leading to the oddly empty street.

"I thought they dismissed you."

"Hardly gonna leave you in there," Ryan patted the ground, "Had bail ready, and everything."

Kol glanced at his white suit sleeves, pulling a face towards the spot.

Only to remember Ryan was dressed in the exact same colour.

He let himself sit, "I must warn you – "

Ryan's arm went over his shoulder.

" – I turned my humanity off."

Kol was taller than him, but Ryan wasn't a short man either, moving to offer comfort, only for the terrifying phrase to fill the air. Leaving him frozen. Leaving them with nothing to do but sit, staring at the black metal gates on either side of the path.

Until, Ryan's hand graced down Kol's back, squeezing lightly.

He was breathing out.

"I thought you might've," His voice was cautious, "...Then you stuttered at the grave."

Kol winced.

"Kol – "

"It is the only way to keep my head on," He shifted himself away, "If I feel it, this entire city will be torn to pieces, and – "

"You've grown to like it?"

"Mira would never forgive me."

With Kol's move, Ryan let his arm fall, resting it on his knees and staring forward again. Outside the police station probably wasn't the best place to have the conversation, but Kol seemed entirely comfortable despite having supposedly experienced an interrogation. Too comfortable. Leaving Ryan to fill in some dots about the funeral's interruption.

"What am I meant to say?" He looked at the sky, "I usually just know."

"A gift I am entirely envious of."

Ryan managed a smile.

"Well, I was," Kol bobbed his head, "When I could feel envy, now I'm simply bored, because when you can't feel anything, you only really register nothing – "

"Which is boredom."

Kol nodded.

He was staring at the street too.

"It's only until I fix it," He reasoned.

"And what does that mean?"

"I'm bringing your daughter home."

Silence, on what was normally a busy area.

"I don't care how long it takes, or what I have to do, but there will be something out there that can save her," Kol pulled a tiny wooden box out of his jacket, "And I'm going to find it."

He handed the box over.

"I'm keeping the Aonso stone," Kol explained, "These are the ones housing your son."
