"HEY, ARE you okay?" Piper's voice was the first thing Maisie heard as she woke up.
She opened her eyes, and squinted a bit at the bright light. The sun. That meant the clouds were gone. Maisie looked up and saw the sun shining brightly in the sky, not a single cloud in sight. She found the sight of the sun reassuring, probably because she was a daughter of Apollo. She knew her dad was up there flying the chariot, and no, he wasn't the best father, but at least he acknowledged her existence, which was more than most demigods could say.
"You hit your head pretty hard on the fall," Piper said, gingerly helping her sit up. "But, it wasn't hard enough to cause hallucinations."
"Hallucinations?" Maisie asked.
"Yeah, all of that stuff you saw was real," Piper explained.
"I know," Maisie nodded. "Believe me, that's one of the less weird things I've seen in my life."
"You must have a pretty messed up life," Leo commented.
Maisie nodded her head, giving him a look that said, You don't know the half of it.
"Uh, guys, are those flying horses?" Piper asked, looking at something over Maisie's shoulder.
Maisie looked behind her and saw something descending from the sky. Maisie almost laughed with happiness seeing the flying chariot. It belonged to her cabin, back at camp. It was pulled by two pegasi, and was heading right for them. Maisie couldn't help but smile.
"Reinforcements," Jason realized. "Hedge told me an extraction squad was coming to get us."
"Extraction squad?" Leo repeated. "That sounds painful."
Maisie rolled her eyes as Piper helped her stand up, "They're just coming to pick us up."
"And where are they going to be extracting us to after they pick us up?" Piper asked.
As the chariot landed, Maisie almost cheered with joy as she saw the familiar face of Annabeth Chase in the chariot. The blonde quickly got out of the chariot, pulling out her knife as she ran at the group.
"Where are they?" she demanded, her gray eyes fierce like they always were when she was angry.
"Where is who?" Jason asked.
Annabeth frowned, then turned to look over at the rest of the group. Her eyes widened in surprise as her eyes met Maisie's, "Maisie?"
Maisie smiled and nodded.
Tears filled Annabeth's gray eyes, "How- But you- Maisie?"
Maisie nodded, "It's me."
Annabeth ran forward, hugging her tightly, "We thought you were dead!"
"I know, sorry."
"How?"
"I don't know," Maisie admitted, and she really didn't. She was supposed to be dead. And yet here she was, hugging her best friend.
Annabeth pulled away, as if realizing the others were there too.
"What about Gleeson?" she asked. "Their protector, Gleeson Hedge."
Maisie shrugged helplessly. She honestly felt bad for not noticing that the satyr wasn't there anymore.
Leo cleared his throat, "He got taken by some...tornado things."
"Venti," Jason explained. "Storm spirits."
Maisie furrowed her eyebrows at the name. Venti was the Roman name for the Anemoi. How had Jason known what they were, let alone the Roman name for them?
