Once I got back to my Mom's house, with Julia in the back of the car, we all stayed for a while. Mom seemed to like Julia, and if anyone were to know I think that would be me. We had dinner together, in the most unromantic fashion, but that is a common theme for both Mom and I and Julia and I, so it fit right into place well enough. Julia, on the outside, put on a show of happiness in the situation, but her words to me felt distant, and I worry about her well-being. Now she is asleep, and it is the same night. I am sitting on the edge of the bed. I have the legal papers in my hands; we lost track of time that night and Mom has an early morning so we settled for the day after tomorrow to give the documents a real study. My eyes were tired, so I put the documents aside and slept beside Julia.
