"Don't bear such a scary look on your face," Y/n says as he nudges the Crown Prince, "if looks could kill, my sister would be dead by now."

The anxiety and growing fear in him still does not settle; and as he sits — side by side, unfortunately — with Arion, he keeps one eye on his sister and Claude. They seem to be getting along well. Just like the game states: Angelina manages to beat Claude in a particularly difficult mana spell, which triggers a rivalry between the two of them. The classic academic rivals-to-lovers trope, except that this game route inevitably leads to death.

"You keep looking over at them," Arion says, and his voice it's — snappy, "so why shouldn't I glare at them? They are a bother."

Y/n swallows. The prince's mood is erratic, to say the least. Hm. Is this a late side effect? Is he jealous of Claude? Are his affections for Angelina blooming belatedly?

No.

Y/n knows it is a flimsy excuse for him to avoid the glaring truth — Arion is jealous of Claude. Because of him. He had always been one to find excuses.

"You said a Prince has to have manners," Y/n swallows. He keeps his voice light, "I don't see any of them now." He knows the only way to stop this situation is simply to stop looking; but how can he, when even a little wrong move could send the world spiraling down? Instead, Y/n discreetly steals glances that Arion notices. The gleam in his eyes only seems to darken; and Y/n knows he has to quickly divert the situation — and what seems to be possible — doom for Claude. Poor guy.

Y/n does make a point to lean closer to the prince, however, and he lowers his voice.

...What exactly can he say?

"Thank you for just now," he says. He's aware he's already thanked the prince twice, but three times the charm, right?

Arion raises an eyebrow, but he seems to relax.

"You're just saying that to ease the tension, are you?" But a smile tugs at the corners of his lips — "it's not exactly the most subtle, Livio."

The last words are said affectionately; fondly.

But Y/n smiles inwardly, relieved that he has successfully diverted Arion's attention away from his jealousy.

But still...

Y/n sighs.

This class cannot be over soon enough.

**

As the day progresses, Y/n finds himself growing more impatient.

Can something just happen already? This is nerve-wracking, he thinks, swallowing. There's just something, he knows, lurking in the background, waiting to bite. There's just something going to happen — he can't seem to shake off the feeling that danger is waiting about, waiting to sink its fangs in.
